The most annoying computer accessory ever?

Posted by Alex Duggan, 15 November 2005 · 66 views

I think I may have just managed to buy the most annoying accessory ever created for a computer.

After I switched from ADSL to Cable internet access, this meant getting a new wireless router to be able to share it around the house, have always used netgear routers in the past so I thought i'd stick with that and get a cable version of one of theirs.

I went for some fancy new one, that apparently has 7 different antennas so you can always find a good signal - sounds great!

  This is it:

That blue thing contains seven amazingly bright LED's, one for each antenna to show which one(s) are in use at that particular moment (changes every second). These LED's are bright enough to light up an entire room. And they do! All bloody night long. Not so bad if you're setting up a wireless network in a nightclub, but somewhat annoying when your cable line's in your bedroom getlost.gif

It's quite possibly the most pointless and annoying computer related item (except for Windows ME of course) ever - and it's going straight back in the box to amazon tomorrow for a refund! I'll replace it with a Apple Airport Extreme base station from the apple store tomorrow - that doesn't feature a built in light show!

2 blog entries within a month, I think that this is a new record for me!

I can see where that would be quite annoying tongue.gif .
Well, I have about 20 flashing green LCD lights in my room.  thumbsup.gif
