Skin Design Contest Winners

Posted by Charles, 17 July 2009 · 403 views

Choosing a winner for our skin design contest was a challenging task as all submissions were excellent. Ultimately, we chose the winning skin based on ease of editing and overall usability for inclusion in the IPB3 distribution as an alternate skin. There were some great skins that we could not choose so we hope that all of you talented designers that submitted such amazing skins will continue your projects outside of the contest!

Third Place

Invision Smooth by Derek M.

Second Place

Thoreau by No1 1000

First Place

CleanCut by ehren.

CleanCut is on our company forums now for preview. Thank you again to all who participated!

Congrats!
CleanCut should be the default skin.
I've currently finished designing a website theme for my Invision Smooth; which is a splash page for downloading the theme at InvisionSmooth.com

Just finalizing licensing, building (coding) the splash page, fixing minor bugs/issues, and what not before releasing the skin. Thanks for everyone's support and to IPS for being great contest holders. They're one of the few companies out there that have fun with what they do and work with others to ensure the smoothest transitions.

The design, upcoming site, and domain are all for sale as well, if interested. Price? Anything reasonable. Otherwise, I plan to support the theme for a while, depending on circumstances. Expect it ready next week.
Thanks so much everyone :)

Looks like there are a few minor bugs to iron out for 3.0.1 but they'll be fixed soon enough :)

Congrats to No1 1000 and Derek M aswell!
well done to all involved, specially the winners!.
Congratulations to Ehren lovely skin
Congrats to all the skin designers! :)

Congratgulations Ehren on getting 1st place Posted Image A deserving winner Posted Image Using the skin now and really appreciate the Back to Top button Posted Image

Well done to No1 1000 and Derek M too for coming 2nd and 3rd respectively :D

To all the other designers, thank you for submitting your designs and wish you sucess with them if you release them :)

IPS, it is appreciated to have the competition in the first place to give these designers to show of their talent with the ultimate prize of having the winning skin in a future release Posted Image
Congratulations - It's a beautiful skin!
Congratulations to all winners!
I looked to the winning templates but my feeling is that templates from this contest are far away to be " the perfect" template. That's not the case with the templates of the IPB 2.3.x where we can find a lot of innovative and full of imagination templates.
Just look back at the old ipsbeyond template and you will see a huge difference and this is just an example.
Let's innovate not just change some colors and pictures or to move some stuff!
I'm sorry that I'm critical but in my honest opinion I will choose to not switch to other template that the original I'm using now because by now (with a 30$ version exception ) all looks unprofessional.
I hope that all the participants to accept my critic and to demonstrate in their next skins that I'm wrong !
I also hope that IPS will continue this contest every year :) !
Congratulations : )
not much different from the default.
well done anyway

The contest guidelines was to make an alternative default. Overly altering the design structure/principals and making it much too hard for the average user to customize, would be the taboo of the contest. I disagree that there weren't designs that attempted to be innovative with their entries, but you can only go so far until it ventures into the 'advance realm' and is otherwise hard for the general user to customize.

In respect to your points, as I understand what you're aiming at, I do see how things could be more unique. However, as for "perfect", plenty designs matched that expectation, in my opinion. There's no such thing as 'perfect', but in this case, there was many successful and complete entries, if that's what you were contradicting.

Err...how can we check it out? Where to see them at?
The link on the resource page Goes to the profile of Derek M rather then to here.
When will CleanCut be made for down load?
Also while useing it I have noticed the side bar transition isn't as clean as on the IP.Board skin.
There is a bit of a lag there.
Those bugs do need to be addressed (on page 1) but overall its a nice skin, the fact that 3.0.x has face book connect as one of its really huge benefits, and the fact that this skin fits in with face book itself AND IPB, its just beautiful.

I agree that just changing the colors is not innovative, but this is for a default skin, most certainly should not be a complicated one, but a sleek one as it is.

I don't think this will be available for download until it is released as default (for those who accidentally delete it from their forum.. oops!) but at that point it will be packaged with IP.Board.

Only thing I'd like to know, is if we can view the other 2 in any way?
is it cleancut onw ?
