IP.Gallery 3.1.0 now in testing

Posted by Rikki, 17 November 2009 · 176 views

We are pleased to announce that IP.Gallery 3.1.0 is now in the beta testing stage, and has been installed on this board for public testing! This update brings many refinements, performance optimizations, and new features, including:

Friendly URLs
IP.Gallery now makes full use of the IP.Board FURL system. Categories, albums, images and more now have the friendly URL structure you're familiar with.

Image notes
Image owners are now able to add notes to sections of their images, positioning and resizing them to suit. Other members will be able to see the notes when hovering over the image. (An example)

Image rotation
Images can now be rotated in 90° increments, to compensate for those photos taken in landscape or portrait, but saved in the wrong orientation.

New slideshow
We have completely rewritten the slideshow feature! It is now a unified interface, loading images on demand as necessary. Users can play or pause the slideshow at will, or jump to specific photos using the thumbnail bar.

Profile picture album
You can now create a new kind of album, a 'Profile Picture' Album. After this album has been created, any images that you upload to it will be displayed on the change picture page in your User CP, making them easy to select as your profile image.

Sub albums
Albums now support unlimited sub albums, which work exactly like gallery sub categories.

Category & album covers
It is now possible to specify one of the images in a category or album to be the cover of that category or album. If a cover image is specified, it will always be displayed for that category or album, instead of the last image thumbnail.

Friends-only albums
When creating an album, users can now choose to restrict viewing to only those users who are on their friends list.

Reputation support in comments
We have added support for IP.Board's reputation feature in comments posted within IP.Gallery.

Interface tweaks
We have updated the style of categories so that larger versions of the image are used, to give more impact. The image listing has also been updated, and will now show as many images on a row as the users browser can fit. This should improve the display of IP.Gallery for users who have higher screen resolutions. The image view screen has also been improved, including support for those features mentioned above.

Look around the Gallery we have installed here on the IPS community and let us know any bugs or issues you come across in the Tracker. We hope you enjoy using the new features in this update!

I do not like showing empty user galleries under caterogy view...

If we have to it should be at the end... First we should show galleries with images then the empty user galleries...

5) Can you make it so that clicking the image itself pops up the full-size version of the image (the same as clicking the magnifying glass icon)? I would also move that icon below the image, as it detracts a bit from the image below it.

Thanks!

Regarding number 5, that's how it was before, but unfortunately we had to remove it in order to add the notes functionality. Having two 'click' triggers on the image is confusing both for the user, and the browser, so we decided it'd be best if there's an explicit button for enlarging the image.

Looks great, can't wait to get this running on my forum!
3) I'm seeing a blue selection box when I click on any of the navigation buttons (previous image, play, next image). When the mouse button is held down over one of these buttons, the box turns red. Also seeing this when clicking the "X" button in the upper-right corner. Using Firefox 3.5.5.

Should post this in the bug tracker

But, hmm.. where can i like, download the image?

We've added a download button :) Won't appear on our gallery yet, but it's there for release :)

Looking great! Though that tagging system is still missing here.
Nice job so far!

The tagging system was considered, but we're going to wait and include tagging in the core instead, so all applications can make use of it. It'll be in a future update :)
While a few of those are neat, the lack of tags is very disappointing.

Hmm...image notes. o.o
I really like the new gallery, but I think the thumbnails of an album (when viewing a picture) should be on the top, the right oder the left - and much smaller! That would be so great guys! (maybe as an option in the admin panel!?) Best regards!
I have been asking for the following feature since the time of IP.G 2+

Is it possible that you add a feature to re-order the albums of a category? Like you can re-order the settings in ACP, with drag-n-drop.

Other than that, you did a GREAT work :D Congrats to you people :)

It's not possible to re-order albums yet, they are still sorted by name. We have some larger plans for overhauling albums, so when that happens it's likely we'll add the ability to order them at that time.
No problem Josh, but please write it down even for a future addition at least. :)
Good news and well worth the long wait and belief that one day, one year us gallery owners would see some development. Lets not leave it so long, keep the ball rolling, this is a valuable addition to many boards
Can we get an image count per album? It seems there is only a count per category and would be useful to have an image count per album.

PS I like the new look of the main categories.. very nice touch! Now I think it just needs a bit more fixed-sized thumbnails and make the gallery look pro =)
Looking good so far. I do notice that the tagging system that I heard hasn't made it in yet. What about RSS Feed? Is there an RSS Feed for the gallery images now, so users would be able to use something like "Cooliris"?
Good job! Only one think that I don't like - photostrip. It is usefull only if you have a very very big screen. Is it possible to make a change of this feature for small screens (19', 17', 15' and smaller)? Maybe make photostrip smaller, or just put arrows above the picture.

Also when you open the full size picture you can't go to the next picture like in blogs or forums, you can only close it, why?
Good job!

We're not completely happy with the photostrip either, I think it's safe to say that you can expect some changes to it in the future. :)
Profile picture album. This seems like a nice feature. What would be even better, would be to have the ability to have the board automatically rotate through your images in this album on a preset interval. For example, it would automatically show a different profile picture every hour, every day or maybe on every profile page load. That would be sweet!
what is improved in performance?
How can you set a cover image for categories?
