I had previously blogged about the status update improvements coming in IP.Board 3.1.0. This blog runs through some exciting new integration features with Twitter.
As IP.Board already has Facebook integration, it makes sense to also integrate Twitter. This further lowers the bar when registering a new account on your forum. If your visitors have have a Twitter account, they can use this to register a new forum account or to "connect" their existing account with their Twitter account.

Integrating your Twitter account allows you to use your Twitter profile picture and description on the board.

You can also import your latest Twitter status onto the board, or post your board status to Twitter. If your forum status is longer than 140 characters, it will cut the status off and automatically add a Bit.ly URL pointing to your forum status update.

You may note that each status update on the forum has a little icon showing where the status originated.
These improvements should increase registrations on your board and generate more traffic to it.

Very nice, question is does it allow for integration with both? Could I have my tweets update my status while FB updates my profile picture?
Keep up the good work, 3.1.0 is shaping up to be excellent.

Ohhh soo close to what I want! I would love if I could make a System account on my forums, and that account would then push out Tweets to Twitter. Every time a member submitted a file to IP Downloads, or a member made a new Blog post, a corresponding Tweet would announce it on Twitter. Can it be done?
Idea's for auto tweets.....
Everytime I post something to Twitter, I get at least 20-30 members that arrive at my site......If I could have it set up to automatically do it for me, I could get 3000 more members a month that see my website.

- Top Replied Topic of the Day
- New Files submitted to IP Downloads
- New Blog posts submitted to IP Blog
- Random Gallery Image of the Day
- Random IP Download of the day

Any chance of the option not to use bit.ly? Or to use it with my API password etc.

Sounds good, but there is question I have, when will the Windows Live sign-in method get improved upon? It's been out awhile and have yet to get improved or fixed.

This is great. You should really add in native sharing support (Twitter, Facebook, Digg, etc.).

hmm, over the years now is more important to think about what all is to disable on every update from funktions then otherwise ... :/ i need a forum solo, not a social network connector or something that way ...
maybe is time to think about a ip.light board on IPS ... without things only has to be disabled ... ???

Anything you don't like you can just shut off in the admin area. They're optional options that you can optionally deactivate.
