IP.Board 3.1.0 Dev Update: View Reputation

Posted by Mark, 23 February 2010 · 565 views

In IP.Board 3.0 we introduced a simple reputation feature, allowing users to give positive or negative reputation to a post.
While administrators can view who gave reputation through the Admin CP, in IP.Board 3.1 we have introduced a way for all users to view who gave reputation on any given post.

To view who gave reputation, you just click on the reputation number at the bottom of the post which will now display a popup balloon indicating who has given reputation.

There is a per-group setting to control who can use this feature. If a user does not have permission to use it, the number will not be clickable and appear unchanged from how it currently is.

The data is loaded through an AJAX call when the link is clicked, so there is no additional queries to the topic view for this feature.

Just change the image tag in the skin for the post display to your own image call :)

Sadly one cannot simply replace the icon as the same icon is used to open up the options etc.

Would be nice if it was separate to enable a simple thanks system to be enabled.

So it would mean further changes - so if it could be independent from other icons that would be great :)

Change the rep_up replacement variable rather than replacing the image itself.

What if 100 users gave reputation?
Still curious how the balloon with display when more than a few users give reputation points.
probably a scroll bar inside it, you can set a div to fixed size and turn on overflow. kinda like how emoticons work on the quick reply now ---->
Great! It does introduce a new feature (display more information) without the need for one more annoying "button" or link. That is good implementation!

For those users with Javascript disabled, will they be taken to a page listing the same information, or will the feature simply be unavailable to them?

It'll just be a bigger balloon.

It will be unavailable and display as it does now.
What happens if a post has 50 or 100+ reputation points received, will it eventually buckle into a scroll bar, or just load off the screen, unviewable to the end user?

The page would get bigger.

Should have a scrollbar, what if a post gets repped hundreds of times? That would be pretty ugly wouldn't it?

Is that suitable for everyone?
That looks good. That Mark guy really likes you!

..Al
That looks good, but I think there must be a bug since Mark repped that post more than once. :P
Nice addition
if a member get high repuation, is he able to get anything special or just "numbers"?

Superb Mark, wonderful. :)
I would really like to see a reputation system like the ones I've used on Vb boards in the past. I posted a thread about it here with a screen shot: http://community.inv...0

Essentially, the reputation and comment is shown inside the post, visible to everyone. It's a really sweet little feature.
I loved the reputation system of MyBB forum.

Wolfie - you destroyed our over/under bet on the number of suggestions you would post for this blog entry. >.<

(psst...next time be sure to post exactly 5 suggestions  )
Judging by the image shown, I see some pretty huge potential for abuse, via 'retribution'. Maybe only admins should have this ability, because if most communities are like this one that give out - rep just because they disagree with how something is presented, my god, this is going to get very vindictive, very, very quickly.
