IP.Nexus Dev Update: Credits

Posted by Mark , 12 June 2010 · 1,785 views

In several of our previous blog entry about IP.Nexus, we've mentioned "credits".

Credit, is simply money which is stored on the account. When IP.Nexus "pays" a users (commission for a referral purchase, for example) it adds credit to their account.
The administrator can of course award credit manually from the customer page in the Admin CP.

A user which has credit on their account can use it against purchases. On the checkout screen, they will see a link like this:

Clicking that will deduct the user's credit amount from the balance to pay.
If the amount of credit is greater than the balance, IP.Nexus will recognise that payment has been received and display the thank you page (or redirect the user to the download page for IP.Downloads purchases).

In addition to using credit for purchases, if the administrator allows, users can request that their credit be paid to them.

In the client area, users will see an "Account Credit" section from which they can request a payout.

The user will then be alerted on the Admin CP dashboard that there is a pending payout request. They can view all payout requests in the Admin CP.

Clicking the Pay option will allow admins to complete the payout request. For PayPal, this will take the admin straight to PayPal and the request will automatically be removed upon completion.

Would it be possible to manually add credit to a users account?
Is it possible to give credits per topic\post\rep...?
I'd like a way to be able to give someone a credit that they *have* to use when making a purchase of some sort and not be able to request it as a payout. Useful for doing something similar to a 'store credit', but without the possibility of it being a 'refund' in some cases. Either that, or an easy way to click their name a generate a coupon exclusive for them and have it offered to them (automatically).

Let me clarify. Force particular credits to be credit only and not payable to the member.
I like the idea, but I'm not sure on how the implementation would work.
I'd rather expand the coupon system, to be honest.
I have a question I'm hoping to get an answer for: Will IP.Nexus support packages that goes to different paypal accounts. Let's say you want to use your shop to host different companies (with different products), is this possible?

Could have two credit fields that usually show as combined. One is "payable credits" and the other is "instore only credits". Sort of along the same lines of how banks can show two balances, one is actual balance, the other is available balance.

Of course, would be better to do it as two credit amounts as opposed to one credit amount and the other to say how much is payable or not, because if something ever goes wrong, could have one amount not properly matching the other (ie, if one is total and other says how much is payable, that could cause issues).

The problem with using the coupon idea is if someone only uses half of their 'credit' on a purchase, they lose the other half. Unless you can make it so that when a coupon is for one specific person, that it has a maximum amount that can get used until it's all gone. Sort of like a debit card of sorts.

I think you are asking about multiple shops support, and that's a feature that's been requested. Look in the IP.Nexus Feedback forum, it's in there.

I like where you're going with the design.
