Improved Skin Generator

Posted by Mark, 07 October 2010 · 605 views

One of the benefits provided to IP.Board license holders is the skin generator which allows you to automatically generate an IP.Board skin using the colours you choose.

If you're not familiar - have a look at our previous blog entry on it.

Something which is frequently requested by skinners is a way to move the member box in the IP.Board header to a different location, so it isn't overlaying the logo; more like a traditional member bar.
I've spent some time today working this in as an option to the skin generator. When you go to the skin generator, there will be an option under "Choose Options" that says "Add member bar?" - simply check this box, and the member bar will be included in your skin.

Here's a screenshot of how it looks using the default colours:

If you'd like this look on your community simply head over to the skin generator and download a skin in your colour choice. For instructions on how to import skins, please see our documentation.

Enjoy!

Nice work.  Looks pretty slick ;)
Cool! :)
Awesome addition :)
Thanks, I have been using this for sometime now and for me its great I can now keep my skins up to date when Invision upgrade.

One question though I have just update my skin is it easy enough to change the member bar or is it quicker to just go get a new skin

Thanks again
Nice :)
Nice work. That space can now fit another banner
Looks good
While i do love the skin generator, ive noticed tonight that while making a skin, telling the skin maker i have blogs added. When i install the skin, it all looks great until you open somebodys blog, and you find it doesnt generate that part of the header in a person blog where the title is, and the green book is (in the default skin) it just falls short and doesnt replace the top left hand part of the banner in a members blog... The rest works lovely, just that bit...
A really nice touch would be if it could generate decent dark skins. When you make the colours really dark it doesn't do so well as it does with brighter skins if you see what I mean.

I think it's the other way around, isn't it?  I might be wrong, but I've been trying to create a nice bright orange skin and it comes out really bad...

Just an Update for anybody with the same problem, you can manually fix  this by copying the blank_logo from the resources folder in the new  generated template and uploading it to your server folder "  Public>style_images> your new template folder>blog...

Replace the blank_logo with the new one from the resources folder of the new generated template...
Cool.

I would love to know how to change to this on my current skins. Any chance of publishing that code?
You just run the skin generator here and click the download link, then install the skin as you would with any other - you don't need the skin generator code itself.
Peter, I meant that I already have several skins installed. I made some mods to them. I don't want to have to recreate them all just to move the member bar.

I would love that to since my current skin is heavily modded, dont want to do it all over again.
Very nice system, nice addition too, will solve a few issues people are having.
Very nice work, A big thank you for the work on this. I would like to see some more options in the future though if you have time. For example the lighter color that is chosen automatically, it would be nice to be able to pick all the colors.
How hadn't I found this post before? I'd love this feature!
