Gallery 4: Mobile Skin

Posted by Matt, in Gallery 02 February 2011 · 555 views

As the beta process for Gallery continues, I've found the time to implement the mobile theme that can be used by any mobile handset's browser or by the iPhone app we have available for free in the App Store.

The mobile theme is lightweight as expected and makes good use of the small cropped thumbs as well as the new 'small' image that is created. This saves a lot of bandwidth which will be a huge relief to those that don't have a good 3G signal.

I'll be updating Gallery here later today so you can see this live. The mobile theme will be available with Gallery 4.0 Beta 3.

I hope that you enjoy this new functionality when it's available!

Looking neat and slim.
Looks good, but I'm concerned about the scroll bar at the bottom that appears to indicate a large are to the right of the page where you have to scroll across?

The mobile skin should fit neatly within the window without any side scrolling to see any additional space unless you have zoomed in :)
When will these mobile skins work with windows 7 phones as default ?
That is great news.

Actually, that's the debug information at the footer of the page that is causing the scroll bar. Without the debug info, it fits neatly.

Post a bug report in IPB and we'll add the user-agent to the whitelist by default. You can add it yourself from your Admin CP.
Hey you know there an iPhone application that will allow you to view the iPhone screen directly on the computer. Might make the shots look a little bit better. :)
Hey !!

Excellent, thank you Matt
Will 'tagging pictures' be a feature of the new 4.0?
This is really a great efforts
Love it... :)
Interesting maybe I can see them better on my iPhone. Good Job! and I gave you a rep for this.
Fantastic news IMHO!  I'm getting quite a bit of traffic via the mobile side of things and this would be a most welcome addition.
