The above illustrates one specimen of fanboyism. The Nintendo Fanboy, of the Genus 'Console', otherwise known as Consoleus Marious. Fanboys are a dangerous and evil race of people.
What is it with electronics that mean they make moronic teenagers want to bash any competitor into the ground, and continually preach (and they do preach) the virtues of said product.
Console and OS fanboys are the most prolific (I could point out examples of the later on this very forum) but I've also ran into MP3 fanboys (though this is often an extension of OS fanboyism), mobile phone fanboys, and on one very bizarre occasion a washing machine fanboy (don't ask).
Do these people really think that they're going to help their favoured company by preaching that they can do no evil? In fact I'd say its the opposite. I plan to get a PowerBook during the summer for university, everytime Mac fanboys open their mouth I consider getting a Dell Inspiron 8600c. In fact I do believe I've finally found the reason behind Microsoft's dominance,- Windows has the smallest amount of fanboys. Everyone gets so pissed off with Mac and Linux fanboys that they go get Windows machines just to spite the obnoxious tossers.
The thing is fanboys are usually completely ignorant. Lets take a member here for example, lets call him NarStox, or NS for short. Now NS loves Apple. He hates Windows. Windows is THE DEVIL! He hates everything Microsoft related. NS wants to get to iWork for his Mac so he doesn't have to use Office. Office for Mac is ported apparently and this makes it slow. Uhh no it isn't. Office for Mac is built from scratch for the Mac market. iWork is a 'competitor to Office and is going to kick its ass' apparently. This despite the fact that Office is an productivity suite whereas iWorks is just a works suite at best, and a word processor and presentation app bundled together at best. As well as this neither Keynote or Pages is as powerful as Word or Powerpoint- they're not built to be. They're built for ease of use rather than versability or power.
Basically NS's obsession with Apple has blinded him towards the frickin obvious and made him into a laughing stock.
Not that this isn't a two way process, I was once informed by someone who hadn't used a Mac in his life that Macs only came with black and white monitors. Yeah cos Pixar loved developing 'The Incredibles' in Black and White. WHO NEEDS COLOURS ON SUPERHERO COSTUMES?!
I'm beginning to wonder if electronics emit some kind of field that influences teenage minds and makes them
