I hate 'Trendy' Lefties

Posted by , 19 February 2005 · 226 views

I'm a lefty. I believe in heavy decentralisation, a strong welfare state, the abolition of the House of Lords, equal rights for homosexuals, environmentalism and regulation of business. Basically I am what in the US would be described as a 'communist' and likely to be shot. When we went to Ohio this Christmas my sister was scared we were gonna get thrown in jail as terrorists cos I had a copy of 'The Communist Manifesto' and a biography of Trotsky in my bag.

I'm a rather pragmatic and cynical leftist, especially when it comes to the trendy segment of left wing politics that has started to usurp Leftism's sensible side.

What is the 'Trendy Left'? The Trendy left is, mainly, people in their late 20s, with university educations, who work in public services, they own Macs, they have lots of stuff, they read The Guardian (though only because someone once told them it was left wing, not because they can actually understand or enjoy it) they drink lattes in Starbucks (because the best way to rebel against the power of big business is to drink their coffee) and they generally consider themselves A: Better than you, B: Visionarys. The words 'arrogant stuck up cocks' come to mind.

In Britain we have two main proper left wing political groups. One is the Green Party, the other is RESPECT, to an extent they've both been invaded by the Trendy Left, though the Green Party moreso, and I object to RESPECT because its run by George Galloway, a man who's favourite hobby is was to suck Saddam Hussein's penis.

The Green Party is full of fluffy thinking. Take their leadership. Other partys have one leader- Michael Howard, Tony Blair, Charles Kennedy. Not the Greens! No, that's not good enough! The Greens have three. Yes, you read right, three. Because true representation comes from having a confusing hierachy. Then there's their policy on agriculture. They want to BAN GM foods in Britain. Oh, first of all, how the hell are we supposed to do that? GM foods are already too widespread in fields. And second of all, why would we want to? There's absolutely no proof that GM foods hurt anyone. "Oh" but the Greens say "They used to say that about tobacco!" There's a slight difference between SUPPRESSION of the truth and there simply not being any evidence. Do Police say "Oh well, there's no evidence, but then there was no evidence for that guy last month, lets just throw him in jail anyway." No, they don't. Unless you're Arab.

Then they want to leave the EU. Yeah, I agree. Having an economy sucks ass, cos we won't bloody have one if we leave the EU, all the major industry, foreign investors and so on will ###### off to Eastern Europe, or Italy. Then we won't be able to afford all that Organic food we're gonna have to eat cos you've decided that you're too good for GM Foods you arrogant bastards.

These are the same people that suggest we take down British flags from county councils so as not to offend people, or that we force partys into choosing ethnic minority candidates, because true equality and democracy comes from unfairly biasing the minority against the majority.

The problem with these people is they aren't really left at all, they just think they're being individuals and rebelling against society by saying they are, they fail to realise that they're cocks.

Ugh, I want Old Labour back getlost.gif

I'm disappointed. As a left-handed person I was expecting a completely different article to the one before my eyes. I want my money back!

BY NOT GIVING ME MY MONEY BACK, YOU ARE STEALING!!!! STEALING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

###### off and die.
You know what really annoys me. That is talk of left/right wing. Why can't right wing political parties be green and why can't left wing parties take care of the economy. That's stupid if you ask me.

Me, I'm what they would call right wing in the Netherlands, but most likely left wing in the UK (and for sure left wing in the USA). But if I really wanted to express my opinions, it just wouldn't fit on a left/right wing scale. Some idea's of the left wing parties are ok, and a lot of the idea's of the right wing parties are ok (remember I am referring to the Dutch situation, which scale is probably more to the left of the UK).
Oh I agree totally W1z0r. And people also tend to forget the libertarian/authoritarian split. People forget too often that politics is more than just a single line. Politics isn't 1 dimensional, its 2 dimensional. I has two axes. I also agree that good can come out of both the left and the right. While on most things I tend to be left wing, I tend to support right wing economic policy more, for example.

Surely you mean centralisation?  Decentralisation would be more of a conservative leaning policy.

In the UK its the opposite. And it depends on the type of decentralisation. Its to do with the make up of the Britain/US.
