So as those of you who live in Britain will know we are now in the grips of a General Election.
Labour and the Conservatives have both already managed to piss me off.
My seat is the most marginal seat in Britain. When the 45,000voters of South Dorset went to the polls in 1997, the Conservatives won, by 77 votes. In 2001 Labour targetted us intensely and they won, by 153 votes. We were the only seat that Labour gained in 2001, mainly because all the Tories went and died (as Tories tend to, being on average the oldest party). In short, South Dorset constituency is a constituency which is going to be intensely targetted by both the main two partys over the election (The Lib Dems were 13,000 votes behind at the last election, their chances of winning South Dorset are minimal).
I have made my decision, I am voting Lib Dem. This may silly, seeing as I know that the Lib Dems won't win my seat and thereby I will be 'throwing my vote away'. However, I take the view that I don't like either the Tories or Labour, so all in all I'd rather 'waste' my vote then have to go and vote Labour (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!).
The first sign of an impending election for me was when a few weeks ago I happened to be on the bus to town and then I saw it.
"It is not racist to impose limits on immigration" Said the blue text on a background of white, under which was written "Are you thinking what we're thinking?"
No I'm not you ######ing elitist, populist pricks.
As it happens this turned out to be the worst timed poster ever, as the local newspaper the next day covered the story of the Kachepa family, a group of asylum seekers that the government, in its infinite glory, had decided were perfectly safe and could thereby return to Malawi where there was much evidence to suggest they would be killed. After half Weymouth College's students (where one of the children went) went up to Westminster along with Jim Knight, MP extraordinaire (seriously check him out:
)
and campaigned for them to be released. They're now allowed to say in Britain for 3 months while the case is reviewed (In other words because it would damage baldy's election chances)
In any case the poster in questions pisses me the hell off. Does anyone here know anyone who sees Michael Howard and calls him a racist for having a debate on immigration? Has anyone heard anyone comment on it. Exploitative yes. Ignorant, yes. ######ing moron, yes. Elitist populist prick, yes. Hypocritical arse, yes. I have yet to hear anyone say 'That Michael Howard's a racist!!!!'
Who are these people calling Michael Howard a racist, or do they only exist in Michael Howard's extremely bald head?
Are they perhaps the same people who called Labour anti-semites for having Michael Howard as a flying pig on their poster. Any mind that leaps to that conclusion before the idea that maybe Labour's making a conclusion on Howard's policies is seriously deranged.
"Ahh, Michael Howard as a flying pig. Hmm..... ANTI-SEMITICS!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yeah that's the process as it happened in my head!
Not that Labour is much better. The other day I had an election leaflet shoved through my door. Being a Labour election leaflet the first thing that struck me on a quick search was that nowhere did I see a picture or text related to of Tony Blair. This made it obvious it was a Labour election leaflet because Tory and Lib Dem leaflets are caked in the guy. Instead it had Jim Knight on it- who I'm sure most citizens of Weymouth wouldn't be able to identify. As I flipped it over I discovered the back.
"Only 153 votes stands between us and the Torys! Don't vote Lib Dem, they're 13,000 votes behind!" And then in big bold text: ONLY A VOTE FOR LABOUR CAN KEEP MICHAEL HOWARD OUT OF NO. 10!
Question: What the ###### is Michael Howard doing in No. 10? Is he secretly planning on nicking the contents of the PM's liquor cabinet? And in which case shouldn't he go to No. 11, as that's where the PM lives now.
Shut the ###### up, you moaning tossers. Michael Howard is akin to Lucifer himself, but I'm still not voting Labour. In fact, because I have the mentality of a 12 year old because you told me not to vote Lib Dem I'm three times as determined to vote for them, you utter arses.
Then there's something that rings at both partys: can I hear something positive please? I would like to hear some policies, and why you would be good for government, not consistent finger pointing over who's fault the faecestiness of British life is.
I do wish the Labour party would stop responding to every critisism by saying "We inherited...." Yes, OK, the Tories turned the country into a faeceshole. But it's been EIGHT ######ING YEARS! Grow up. The Tories ######ed us all over, but you've managed to keep it that way. CONGRATULATIONS!
Say what you will about the Lib Dems, but at least they're not petty little ######s.
