25 Days to Election and I'm already Pissed Off

Posted by , 09 April 2005 · 100 views

So as those of you who live in Britain will know we are now in the grips of a General Election.

Labour and the Conservatives have both already managed to piss me off.

My seat is the most marginal seat in Britain. When the 45,000voters of South Dorset went to the polls in 1997, the Conservatives won, by 77 votes. In 2001 Labour targetted us intensely and they won, by 153 votes. We were the only seat that Labour gained in 2001, mainly because all the Tories went and died (as Tories tend to, being on average the oldest party). In short, South Dorset constituency is a constituency which is going to be intensely targetted by both the main two partys over the election (The Lib Dems were 13,000 votes behind at the last election, their chances of winning South Dorset are minimal).

I have made my decision, I am voting Lib Dem. This may silly, seeing as I know that the Lib Dems won't win my seat and thereby I will be 'throwing my vote away'. However, I take the view that I don't like either the Tories or Labour, so all in all I'd rather 'waste' my vote then have to go and vote Labour (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!).

The first sign of an impending election for me was when a few weeks ago I happened to be on the bus to town and then I saw it.

"It is not racist to impose limits on immigration" Said the blue text on a background of white, under which was written "Are you thinking what we're thinking?"

No I'm not you ######ing elitist, populist pricks.

As it happens this turned out to be the worst timed poster ever, as the local newspaper the next day covered the story of the Kachepa family, a group of asylum seekers that the government, in its infinite glory, had decided were perfectly safe and could thereby return to Malawi where there was much evidence to suggest they would be killed. After half Weymouth College's students (where one of the children went) went up to Westminster along with Jim Knight, MP extraordinaire (seriously check him out:

user posted image)

and campaigned for them to be released. They're now allowed to say in Britain for 3 months while the case is reviewed (In other words because it would damage baldy's election chances)

In any case the poster in questions pisses me the hell off. Does anyone here know anyone who sees Michael Howard and calls him a racist for having a debate on immigration? Has anyone heard anyone comment on it. Exploitative yes. Ignorant, yes. ######ing moron, yes. Elitist populist prick, yes. Hypocritical arse, yes. I have yet to hear anyone say 'That Michael Howard's a racist!!!!'

Who are these people calling Michael Howard a racist, or do they only exist in Michael Howard's extremely bald head?

Are they perhaps the same people who called Labour anti-semites for having Michael Howard as a flying pig on their poster. Any mind that leaps to that conclusion before the idea that maybe Labour's making a conclusion on Howard's policies is seriously deranged.

"Ahh, Michael Howard as a flying pig. Hmm..... ANTI-SEMITICS!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yeah that's the process as it happened in my head!

Not that Labour is much better. The other day I had an election leaflet shoved through my door. Being a Labour election leaflet the first thing that struck me on a quick search was that nowhere did I see a picture or text related to of Tony Blair. This made it obvious it was a Labour election leaflet because Tory and Lib Dem leaflets are caked in the guy. Instead it had Jim Knight on it- who I'm sure most citizens of Weymouth wouldn't be able to identify. As I flipped it over I discovered the back.

"Only 153 votes stands between us and the Torys! Don't vote Lib Dem, they're 13,000 votes behind!" And then in big bold text: ONLY A VOTE FOR LABOUR CAN KEEP MICHAEL HOWARD OUT OF NO. 10!

Question: What the ###### is Michael Howard doing in No. 10? Is he secretly planning on nicking the contents of the PM's liquor cabinet? And in which case shouldn't he go to No. 11, as that's where the PM lives now.

Shut the ###### up, you moaning tossers. Michael Howard is akin to Lucifer himself, but I'm still not voting Labour. In fact, because I have the mentality of a 12 year old because you told me not to vote Lib Dem I'm three times as determined to vote for them, you utter arses.

Then there's something that rings at both partys: can I hear something positive please? I would like to hear some policies, and why you would be good for government, not consistent finger pointing over who's fault the faecestiness of British life is.

I do wish the Labour party would stop responding to every critisism by saying "We inherited...." Yes, OK, the Tories turned the country into a faeceshole. But it's been EIGHT ######ING YEARS! Grow up. The Tories ######ed us all over, but you've managed to keep it that way. CONGRATULATIONS!

Say what you will about the Lib Dems, but at least they're not petty little ######s.

1. Gypsys/Immigrants are populist type policys.

2. Paying for private treatment, reintroduction of grammar schools is elitist.

Somehow, the Tories manage it.
Is there something in the water supply of South Dorset? blink.gif
This reminds me of a drive through Peterborough this last weekend. We went through the 'Asian' district (complete with two Mosques) and in the middle of this area was a whacking great billboard with "It's not racist to impose limits on immigration" in two foot high letters.

I don't think the Torys will get many votes there.

Yep, those billboards are in the Curry Mile in Rusholme, Manchester too.
i know who I would vote for...

guys... c'mon... the UK needs to be a superpower like the US, both inseperable. it doesn't matter, though... the victims have become the aggresors, and the "agressors" (not really, just anglos living in their homeland) have become the victims.

i believe the election is the date it is because the BNP's guy is in jail, and he was gonna get votes.

btw... if i saw that in my country, i would have a heart attack.. Matt!

No the election is on May 5th because that's when the local elections are.

Second of all the BNP is not going to get hardly any votes. They are only fielding 50 candidates, they probably won't even get a seat.

Third of all why would we want to be a superpower? We have nothing to gain from it, and there's no chance we could become a superpower, especially not with the BNP in charge. A recent report stated we NEED 125,000 migrants a year for the next 10 years for our economic development to continue. The BNP would close the borders, and withdraw us from the EU sending us into a downward economic spiral.
if i was born in 1790, i would always see the UK as a superpower... but it happened! it sucks that the brothers' war happened (ww1,2) happened, or else this mess we are in would not be a reality... we wouldn't need immigrants.

they said that Ragnarök would never happen, but i guess we can only reminisce about the past... cause in 2050, all the western countries are screwed, literally.

c'mon. no country can escape the reality of collapsing. the UK will probably collapse soon, because from what i've heard, it's becomming super diverse. it's depressing. if you are in a power, and the UK is still a great power by all means, you are still vulnerable to dissolution like Rome... no one can disagree that when in the UK, do as the British do. im certainly positive that you prefer people to assimilate rather than you assimilate to immigrants.

im not saying the BNP is correct in their racism, etc... but they are paying attention to what is happening. not only now, but in the next 100 years.

could you imagine a nonanglo UK? well, it will be like that when we are 70. im certainly not going to tell my grand kids that i sat and played videogames... the tories in the UK are the best bet, i guess...

1790 was a long time ago. In 1790 the United States had only just begun to exist. I would rather live now than in 1790. What do I gain from living in a superpower? Nothing really. I mean Japan COULD become a superpower, but it doesn't want to for some very good reasons.

As for collapsing Britain has managed to adapt to the harsh realities of the modern world. That is why we have a growing economy and only 1% unemployment.

As for diversity, I like diversity. I love that when I walk around Britain I see mosques, various restaurants, I love that my country is a tolerant one, where people's cultures are accepted, and the thing is by the time you get to 2nd and 3rd Generation immigrants most of them are more British than they are ethnic. I reject totally the suggestion that diversity is a bad thing. In fact I see it as making Britain better, stronger. It is only because of our diversity that we are the country we are today. Rejecting diversity would be like rejecting Britain.
http://www.white-history.com

read this, it's unbiased and isn't racist. helped me through history and you really understand why Ancient Egypt and India cease to exist, yet the UK, Sweden, China, and Japan still exist. You can survive natural disasters and great depressions, but no one can escape diversity.

the aforementioned Web site describes the rise and pesudo-fall (from world power to ocupying an economically isolated island)... i love this blog. tongue.gif

notice: the site is best read listening to Eminem, which helps give you a "rush"

i *really* want to see the future of the USA and UK... our country does nothing about illegals, so I am thinking of moving to new zealand or australia.. the last remnants of British society.
Oh man, I'm laughing so hard. That's like the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.

Ethnicity isn't anything to do with biology. That takes the history from a biological stand point, which is completely wrong.

As for 'British Culture' there is no true British Culture. If you told someone from Liverpool that they were culturally the same as someone from Surrey they'd laugh in your face. Hell if you said the same about Manchester they'd laugh too. Britain has always been culturally diverse. Britain has been settled and resettled, immigrated into, colonised and changed multiple times over the last millenia. Everytime it has made us stronger as a nation. Without the immigrants of the 1950s it is likely we would of collapsed completely for example. They helped build the Britain of today. Without them, we would have no modern Britain. Many parts of the country have seperate dialects of English- Yorkshire being a good example. The Welsh, Scottish, Irish and Cornish aren't Anglo-Saxon either. They're Celtish culturally.

Britain is a country of tolerance and constant diversity. Britain is a country that has been strengthened by diversity. Britain is a country with regional cultural differences, but that accepts foreigners into it. It is quite clear that you are completely unaware of what Britain is like. 125,000 immigrants a year over the next ten years are needed to keep our economy in shape. We have a labour shortage, but immigrants do assimilate. Not first generation immigrants no, but as the generations go past immigrants become less and less ethnic and more and more British. I have friends who are 2nd and 3rd Generation immigrants, and apart from the colour of their skin and their religion they are just as British as I am. When they visit distant relatives in their home countries they get ostrasized for being TOO British.

Now Britain is a country that is perfect in terms of ethnic community relations, but the xenophobia of the far right is completely ridiculous.

As for the suggestions that Rome, Egypt and Greece collapsed because of diversity, I can hardly see how an Empire can exist WITHOUT diversity. Surely that is what an Empire is. It absorbs other cultures and forces them to service the Empire. Plus superpowers collapse. That is a fact of life. Countries grow in strength and then, eventually they die. No Empire can go on forever. That would be impossible.

Thinking of Britain in terms of a superpower is ridiculous. The Empire is gone, and good riddance. The British Empire was the only country to ever succesfully complete genocide. The British Empire crushed and destroyed cultures underfoot in order to 'civilise' them. To force the peoples of the world into obeying one culture.

These are crimes, grave crimes, and a New World Order is in place since then too.

Countries don't build empires anymore. People accept each other for who they are. Cultures are allowed to exist, so that people can live the way they want. Not the way some superpower tells them too.

Anglo-Saxon culture will always exist. It will be passed down through families, but it is heightened by diversity. You mention Eninem in your post. Eninem raps, something that originates from Black Music. I listen to rock and metal. Rock originates from Jazz, Blues, R and B.

The shape of modern day music exists BECAUSE we are diverse. And we as a culture are better for it. The melting pot of civilisation bubbles, and new things are discovered.

They do not 'replace' former cultures. Britain's Official Dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala. An Indian Style dish created in Birmingham. It's a hybrid of cultures. Yet that doesn't stop anyone eating Roast Dinners, the traditional British dinner. Or Fish N Chips, yet again, traditional, British. And yet on the opposite side we have Indian foods and Chinese Foods from the original cultures. Our culture is not destroyed by others. Cultures cannot be destroyed. A culture is a way of life. But cultures can COMPLIMENT each other. Can make life better on both sides.

Immigration has resulted in a strong Britain. Immigrants fill important holes in our health services, in unskilled labour work, and in our education system.

Every now and again the ridiculous newspapers come out for reasons why immigrants are evil. First immigrants were taking our jobs. How can they take our jobs in a time of labour shortage? Then they were taking our benefits. But legal immigrants in this country contribute far more to the benefit system than they take away, both in terms of where they work, and the taxes they put into the system.

The truth is this all newspaper hyberbole, believed only by those ignorant enough to believe highly biased bullfaeces.
I will give you the last word...
So it's 3 days to election and you're how pissed off?
