This is something I've been working on for a while now. It started life as a paid commission and now that it has been completed I am able to offer it to you as a paid application (as per the original agreement with the requester).

(PIN) Topic Hover Preview
This Application allows an admin to offer their users a "Topic Hover Preview" facility both in the forums and the forum search results. It allows for restriction of the Topic Hover Preview to specific forums and specific permission masks. Further to this the admin can decide that only topics from a certain forum/group of forums will have the Topic Hover Preview facility in the search view, which can also be restricted on a per mask basis. A screen capture of the app in action can be found here.

Has it got bugs? I noticed that occasionally it did not work? Very interesting mod and may be willing to pay!

None that are known at present. One small bug did exist in the search view where bbcode wasn't being parsed, however that has been fixed. It has a setup that allows for the admin to choose which forums it is active in. The topics which had the little picture of the book beside them are the ones for which the topic hover was enabled. The topics which did not were not in forums that had permissions for topic hover.

At 1:57 in the screencast you'll notice that permissions for the topic hover preview are shown. If you cross check those with the forums for which the topic hover did not show up throughout the video you will find that the two are self consistent.

That's really cool. I could really find this useful, especially when I want to see if someones posts more than ten words but less than about 15. Then I can prove that they don't make quality topics. Thanks for the mod! Will try to buy soon!

could you extend this to work with tracker and idm?

I don't own IDM so until such time as I do I won't be able to extend it (as I've not way of testing whether or not it would work). The tracker is something I can look into definitely.
