Grace Period for post edits

Posted by Wolfie, 25 November 2010 · 116 views

A feature that has been requested often is the option to allow members to make edits to their posts and if the edit is within a small period of time, to bypass showing the "Edited by" tag.  Well the wait is over!  Right now in a beta test is a small hook for providing this very feature.  There are no file edits to make, has a few options and works for both quick edits and full edits.

Edit time Grace Period (timed trial) is available for downloading and will expire on December 1st, 2010.  During this time, I would appreciate feedback so I can make sure it is working as expected before working to make the product final.

Options include the amount of time for the grace period, which forums to apply the grace period to and which member groups are affected.  All of the options are included in the Forums/Topics, Posts & Polls settings group so it's easy to remember where to find it.

If all goes well, then the final version will be available before December.

Excellent addition :)
Excellent but only if this product survive after december ;)
ioncube encoding? Whats there to warrant beta or payware labels?

Well, its up to the author if they wanted to encode their work they can :)

It also is a sensible way of stopping the use of said resource after a certain time period, to ensure that if you are going to continue to use it, you have the latest version.
@mistera
If all goes well, there will be another release.  I'm considering selling the mod and thus the need to put an expiration on it.  Don't worry though, when it expires, the only thing that will happen is that it won't do the desired function.  It won't spam your board or disable any other functions.  Simply put, it'll be as if the hook isn't even installed.

@LeadCrow
As mentioned above, I'm considering selling it (low cost).  If I release it for free while in Beta and it's not encoded, then how it functions would be easy to see and copy.  If it's encoded but without expiration, then it would be pointless to start charging for it.

Even if I were going to offer it for free, encoding still a good way to make sure that any bugs reported are indeed within the hook and not due to someone toying with it and then saying something isn't working only to realize that it's something they did to the file.
Cool one Wolf!
For anyone interested, I've updated it with one that will expire on Dec 15th, 2010.  This should give me time to finish up something before putting up a 'final' release.
