Hide Posts & Reply to View

Posted by Wolfie, 22 March 2011 · 822 views

This is actually two hooks in one.  Hide Posts and Reply to View.  Both perform basically the same function but with slightly different purposes.

Hide Posts
One feature that many people have asked for and wish to make use of is the ability to hide posts from guests or from members of selected groups.  With (Wolf) Hide Posts you can do that.  It's simple and easy to use while offering many features that someone may want.

  • Affected posts are filtered in topic view, topic preview, member profile view and search results.

  • Select which posts to filter.
This is a global setting and allows you to hide the first post of a topic, all of it's replies or both.  You can also select to show the first post of each page of a topic, which is a great way to tease the reader into wanting to see the other posts.

  • Select which forums (or select 'All forums') to active the hook in/
By selecting the 'All forums' option, you don't have to choose all the forums on the list and it will also automatically include any future forums.  However if there are only a few areas you want to affect, you can pick and choose only those.

  • Hide from guests option
You can use this option to always include guests even if you don't select the guests member group.

  • Select which user groups are affected as well as which groups are exempt/
This is a dual tool to help you have greater control on who is affected.  By selecting the groups to affect, those members will have certain posts filtered from view.  The exempt list allows you to choose who to allow to see the posts, even if they are a member of one of the affected groups.  This is great if you sell memberships on your board and have a secondary group added to a members account.

  • Show limited/trimmed content.
You can tease the reader by showing a limited amount of the post before the error message is displayed.  This is yet another way to give a small sample of what there is to see to encourage the reader to want to see more.

  • Override for pinned topics.
You may wish to exempt pinned topics from having any posts filtered.  This allows you to do that.

  • Exempt if posted option.
You may have a forum where anyone can see the topics and even read some of the posts but must be a premium member to view all of the content but not make any posts.  At the same time, if there is a member who once had that premium access but doesn't anymore, you may want to allow them to read the topics they already posted in.  This option lets you do that.  It's similar to 'Reply to View' (see below) except that they are not told to make a reply to see the content, which can be misleading if they don't have access to reply.

  • Customizable error message.
The default message will simply inform the reader that they need to register or sign in (if they are a guest) or that their account needs to be upgraded to view the content.

  • Customizable links.
The links to register and to sign in are automatic but can be overridden with a customized URL if desired.  If you have a link for people to click to upgrade their account (such as selling a premium membership), you can include that too.  It will appear for those who are signed in but don't have adequate access to view the hidden content.

Reply to View
Reply to View has many of the same features as Hide Posts, except that it's geared specifically for requiring someone to post in a topic to be able to view all of the posts in it.  These features include which forums to include, groups to affect or exclude, exempted pinned topics and post trimming.  Great when you want someone to be part of a discussion to see all of it.  Many of the same features as Hide Posts, you can select different forums and member groups to affect as well as a different set of member groups to exempt from having posts filtered.

Will this work for post like

I would like to hide the answer of the puzzle and once you reply you can see the answer?  yesterday i tried one hide/ code hide  hook  but when me replying .. the answer not coming... still hidden
There is a trial copy of the hook as well, so you can download the trial and test this out.

Choose the forum for it to affect (will affect ALL topics), then you could have it to hide all replies while showing the original post.  Then when you post a riddle, make a reply with the answer.

I'm not sure what hook or code you're using, so I'm not sure why it's not working for you.
pm sent to you
