IP.Board Portal development

Posted by Mike John, in IPB Development 05 May 2011 · 434 views

I'm pleased to announce that I'll be taking over development of the IP.Board Portal application. This will include the compatibility upgrade to IPB 3.2.x. An initial release is planned and will be available soon, this will include minor rebranding and a few minor bug fixes if any are found. I'll use this time to more familiarize myself with the code, with the next upgrade likely to be a compatibility upgrade for IP.Board 3.2.x.

Download & Support
The Portal will be added to the IPS Marketplace and initially be only available to download and receive support there. I'll be adding the Portal to my site and a few other major resource sites soon after. I'll also be adding a bug tracker project on my site to manage any bug reports.

Changes (Initial & Future)
Apart from the name being changed to "Portal", there won't likely be any changes to the first release. For future versions, there won't be any major feature additions for a while, I want to focus on bring the Portal in line with IPB 3.1.x improvements and the changes in IPB 3.2.x.

Interested in seeing this and how you use it.
;)
I thought IP Content was replacing the portal in 3.2 ? I remember reading a dev update basically saying, that the portal would no longer be supported and there would be a tutorial on how to set up IP Content to act as the portal...maybe I'm mistaken Posted Image

If you do not mind me asking, who is in charge of the blogging end of the suite?

I assume you mean the IP.Blog application? That's an official IPS application, so you'll need to ask IPS themselves about this.

You'll have to talk to IPS about the tutorial but just to clear up, IPS themselves are no longer supporting the Portal when IPB 3.2.x comes around. I'll be upgrading the IPB Portal to work with IPB 3.2 and support and maintain it. I have no relation to IPS, so I'll be upgrading and supporting the Portal as a 3rd party author.
Sounds Rad, I really like the Portal Concept however It sucks because Its so difficult to use :(

That'd be Rad to Easily use Content Blocks on Forum Information and make a homepage other than the Board Index for SEO...etc

If you have any suggestions on how to make it easier to use, just let me know.
