Love, that four letter word that has brought about both the greatest achievements & worst downfalls known to man.
Love, the force that simultaneously drives us to be better people, and clouds our vision, preventing reasonable thought.
How does this emotion control people so complicitly? Why do people abandon all logical thought when they are in love?
More importantly, why do so many people place such importance on an emotion when most don't even fully grasp the true meaning of what love is?
For many people, love is merely the way they feel towards somebody. What then, when the novelty of the relationship wears thin and the feeling wanes? Ah yes, that's right. A simple review of the rise in divorce rates over the decades will answer that question for us quite nicely.
It saddens me that so many people can toss their love away when the zing of novelty wears off & they realize that life with another person is not always happy trails. Why do so many people choose to walk away from a relationship that they could be very happy in over the long term because of difficulties during the short term? This brings us to the crux of the matter.
Love is more than a feeling. Love is not so one dimensional as being a feel good emotion. Love is a choice. It is a choice that you have to make every day. Some days, when things are going well and you're happy, that choice is simple and automatic. Other times, when things are difficult, the choice to love requires effort to make. Many people, too many, would rather not make that choice.
People have grown used to the instant gratification that our society promotes. Therefore, when a person is not 100% happy in a relationship, the first response to that dissatisfaction is to replace it with something that feels better.
Where are the fighters, the warriors of love? Where are those who would choose to love, instead of walk away? Has society broken the spirits of people so badly that love is no longer worth fighting for?
This warrior will continue to walk the true path of love. Hopefully, I'll see some fellow travelers in my journey.
