Redesigning Solidare Design (Part One)

  Posted by Κeith, 22 November 2010 · 68 views

There were a handful of things I wanted to address in a redesign of our site.

1) It?s very focused on IPB work. I mean, yeah, it?s the majority of the work we do, but when people come to us for web site work, it?s not very inviting. I wanted to showcase that we can handle more than just communities.

2) It doesn?t change much. Part of that is the fact that I?m too lazy to constantly push updates out to the site, since there?s no automation of it. I?m planning on utilizing Twitter and this blog more once I launch the redesign, and the home page will now pull those things in to keep the page fresh and changing.

3) I?ve always liked minimal designs, but this one turned out kind of ?chunky? when I was done with it. I wasn?t entirely happy with it, but after a lot of feedback I decided it was close enough to work as my site. Now that I?ve gotten better with textures and clean designs, I wanted the site to exhibit those qualities.

4) Honestly, the site doesn?t look that good. I?ve improved a lot in the last ten ? twelve months and wanted to reflect that in our site. Part of the drag is that it?s so dark and brown, so I wanted to add some oomph in the way of color. Right now, I like how well everything ties in, but I almost feel depressed looking at the site because of how dark it is. I feel like it doesn?t show our personality at all?

Here?s a couple preliminary mockups of what I?m thinking the new site will become. I kept it very open and clean, and the colors will change from page to page.
