After being really pleased with my work from last week, and getting the best feedback I've had so far from other students, I've had a bad week since my mentor told me it needed a lot of work. Not that I doubt his advice - he's the one that does this for a living, he's the one that knows what he's talking about, but it's hard to hear...

As I mentioned last week, we started work on a new animation. I'm glad, I don't think I could take listening to that same piece of dialogue many more times before I flipped. It's nice to start something fresh.
I chose a clip from My Family (a British comedy) to do this time. The point of the assignment is animate 2 or more shots (i.e. camera...

Someone asked me in one of my other entries whether I was going to render my animation when it was done. I finally managed to get the audio to sync properly, so here it is. I did it in widescreen for fun.
I started a new animation this week, but we're only at the layout stages so I won't bother posting that until I start the animation...

So here it is, my current animation 'finaled'. I have to say, my polishing skills are lacking, and it frustrates me no end. I didn't post my work yesterday as I usually do because I wasn't in the most pleasant of moods due to this.
Polishing is the stage where everything is done save for the tiny details that make a good animation better....

I thought it'd be good to comment on yesterdays purchase of Pixar by Disney, since it could affect me at some point in the future. Wishful thinking? Yeah perhaps, but my hopes are high.
In case you live under a British spy rock, you'll probably know that yesterday morning Disney bought Pixar for $7.4billion dollars in stock. Steve Jobs is now...

Today I've been working on expression tests (or 'Model sheets') for the character we work with. This isn't part of an assignment but it is good practice. It's a lot of fun actually, being able to come up with daft things without having to work out if it's the right expression for that moment in a shot. Let me know what you think...
Not too much to say this week, so I'll just give you an overview of what I've done then post the files!
It was just a refining week on our current shot (now in its 7th week) - we have 1 week left on this. I've taken the suggestions my mentor made and incorporated some of those. Mostly it dealt with cleaning up some of the acting (you'll...

Big stuff this week! I started term 4 on Monday - "Advanced acting". This term is the last focussing on animation; terms 5 and 6 are more geared towards film-making and getting our demo reel up to scratch.
My mentor this term is a guy called Robert Russ. He's worked at Pixar since just after Toy Story 1 - just over 10 years. Going pretty...

I sympathsise with anyone that's injured for an extended period of time, I really do, because I'm going mad and I've only been injured for 2 days.
On Tuesday morning I woke up and got dressed, but as I put my arm up, something made a bad noise in the side of my neck, and I couldn't move, and it was agony. Turns out I pulled a tendon in my...

I've had a brilliant week - I went to see Coldplay, live, twice
Ages ago I bought tickets for Wednesday at Earls Court (London) when they went on sale. When we got there it turned out our seats were rubbish. We were right at the back, and in a venue so huge we really couldn't even make out the people on the stage. Music was good, but not being...
