My best animation so far?

Posted by Rikki, 17 July 2005 · 51 views

I've just finished this weeks animation assignment, and it's the one I'm most pleased with out of all the ones I've done. It's certainly nowhere near perfect and I spent little time on the details so I'm sure I'll get plenty of critique to work with, but it's the one I feel has the most character and appeal.

We had to animate Stewie (as he is called) pushing a heavy object up an incline, so I did him pushing a heavy ball (I figured that allowed for more possibilies than a box).

It's only in blocking at the moment so it's jerky. Next week we'll start smoothing it. I've attached it as a 3vix quicktime movie.

A couple of weeks ago I posted the blocking of my sneek. The plan (and assignment) was to smooth it out for last weeks assignment. I got about halfway, but then everything started to screw up, and the result was I couldn't submit a finished animation. I emailed the maya file to my mentor who took a look. Turns out I animated the 'layout control' (which allows you to place the character at the start of a scene) but you aren't supposed to. All coordinates on the model feed from the layout control, so animating the layout control gives you unpredictable results on everything else. Ah well, it's a learning process and I didn't get penalised for it original.gif

Let me know what you think of this weeks! original.gif

Looking good Rikki original.gif

It does make me wonder what is at the end of the incline...
If I had the time I was planning to make it a see-saw, so when he got far enough it'd tip up and roll off, causing stewie to fall over.

That would have been a lot of work though, and well over the frame limit we had this week. This was 200 frames and the limit was 300, and I had already spent about 6-7 hours on it.
Nice work! original.gif I can't wait to see it after the smothing tho... Bit jerky, but otherwise, nice work! original.gif
really nice rikki,

i ve tried maya myself but i havenīt got the time to train my modeling and animation knowlege. ermm.gif

[EDIT] were do you learn maya (or generally animation techniques)? in a course or do you study something?
I'm a student at www.animationmentor.com original.gif It's only animation tuition, not modelling.
