Animation: Final

Posted by Rikki, 11 December 2005 · 64 views

So here it is: the final animation of this term, and the final update of this 6 week piece original.gif

This week has mostly been some touching up of a few areas, although I did add a part at the end to help get across the emotion he's feeling at that point.

Other changes are:

* Added the mouth movements to the beginning part
* Slightly changed the way the box is brought down at the beginning
* Smoothed out the box flying (I hope this is a popular one tongue.gif)
* When he puts his finger down there's added weight
* When he puts his hand out he now 'throws' it from his arm rather than just moving it out
* When he moves his hand to his head, I cut out a large amount of unnecessary movement
* Added eye darts in several places
* Made the movement after he's on the desk better with some overlapping
* When he goes to jump on the desk I got rid of the hand sliding
* Added the sigh at the end

Comments would of course be appreciated original.gif I've attached a H264 version and uploaded a 3vix version.

Pretty good. The box falling is a lot better now...  Stupid question tho... why does the puppet only have 4 fingers?
Yea, You did an excellent Job. This is a pretty good clip. I am wondering the same thing (about the fingers).
Wow, very nice. What course are you taking?

Anti-aliasing?  innocent.gif
It looks much better now, nice job Rikki.

I believe he is doing a course at http://www.animationmentor.com/
Most traditionally animated characters only have three fingers and a thumb.

Tradition or not. There must be some reason why this is done? Someone must have thought of a good reason to do this? I noticed it in some comics too (and I watch lots of those, since I have kids wink.gif )
It's just one less thing to animate and on small hands a fourth finger would look odd.

There's no anti-aliasing because it's a playblast, not a render. This obviously isn't what would go in a movie, it's just the completed version of the animation original.gif
if you look at old animation, you will find that most characters have only three fingers.  they thought adding the fourth finger made the hands look out of proportion -- least that is what i heard **shrug**
I find it amusing that the fingers are picked up on,  but the almost perfectly ball shaped head, the oversized eyes and the fact he's naked is nothing unusual tongue.gif

The animation itself is great though, well done Rikki!  It's definitely much improved over the versions you've posted before. original.gif
Way I see it, if the comments are about the number of fingers he has, the animation must be good enough not to generate comments about any obvious problems with it tongue.gif
Yup looks really good. I was watching the HD version of the new Ice Age 2 Trailer out a few days ago. Now thats some insane animation.
Yeah, one of the other mentors on the course works at Blue Sky, I loved the animation in the trailer.
Great animation Rikki. Just one small thing - I think the box should fly through the room a bit longer since the guy hits it pretty hard. What I mean is that it just "slowly falls" from the counter.
It's great Rikki! Well done grin.gif
That was awesome! original.gif
I was going to mention what Sebastian Mares almost said. The box flying is better, but now it's too smooth, almost like it floats to the ground instead of falls. A bit too staged, and doesn't follow inertia. For the first split-second it should resist moving at all (an object at rest tends to stay at rest) and then go flying from the force applied, but start to slow over the course of the fall.

Take that for what it's worth, it's a lot better animation than I hope to ever do. grin.gif
Is your name on the credits for this BBC1 "Walking with monsters" programme? tongue.gif

I'm only watching it for the graphics
