Being injured isn't fun

Posted by Rikki, 29 December 2005 · 35 views

I sympathsise with anyone that's injured for an extended period of time, I really do, because I'm going mad and I've only been injured for 2 days.

On Tuesday morning I woke up and got dressed, but as I put my arm up, something made a bad noise in the side of my neck, and I couldn't move, and it was agony. Turns out I pulled a tendon in my neck. I managed to get on the bed again. Ever had your fiancee's mother rub painkiller into your neck while you lay on the bed in your underwear? I have. For most of Tuesday I just laid on the bed. Wednesday I managed to get on the sofa. Today it is a bit better, I can move around but I'm a bit bent over because it hurts to put my head straight. It's more of an ache today rather than a pain like it has been.

I didn't want to go to hospital or see a doctor because they have enough to deal with at this time of year and they'd only tell me to rest it anyway. I read up on it on the internet though, and it said if there's a pain in the relevant arm too it should be seen to because a nerve could be trapped in the shoulder/spine. My arm has felt dead even before I did my neck in, so maybe it is related. I'll see a doctor if it's still like it in a couple of days.

Anyway, I'm not really an active person by any means, but it has driven me mad not being able to move around. I haven't done much more than laying on the bed/sofa and getting up for the toilet, and coming home from Becs today, but I'm bored already. I sympathsise with people who are bed-ridden permanently or for long periods of time. It sucks.

Haha. Being injured sucks.

I had a back operation 2 years ago, where everyday for 7 months a nurse would have todo a wound dressing for me. Every day i would lie on my side. I couldnt sit, or anything, it was HORRIBLE. I can totally understand. I cant say ive had my fiance's mother do that, but i have had a whole whack of people looking at my ass while the nurse did the dressing. Kinda embarrasing.

Good luck.
Was that a cyst? I had that problem, but thank god I managed to avoid being operated on.
Yeh, it was a cyst. 5 ops to get rid of it sad.gif

Eesh, that sucks.

Hope you feel better Rikki.
A while ago, I woke up in the morning with my neck muscles frozen into place (at the worst possible angle, mind you). It was absolute agony. I went to a physiotherapist and she did this thing to it (moving it slowly and massaging it) and it really helped. We managed to get it under ACC (accident insurance) which was good. original.gif  Took a while to get right, every time i moved it my whole neck went into spasm.
I don't know what I did, but I have had something similar. I couldn't move my neck for two days because it hurt so much. Then on the third day it was perfect... who knows what that was tongue.gif

Hope you get better soon.
Yeah it's all better now, and no trapped nerve in my arm either. Took about a week for it to 'heal'.
I had the exact same thing done to me. Hope your healing is for good, I hate neck pains.
I've got a bad right knee at the moment it hurts quite a lot when I'm lay in bed or when I bend it.

I'm planning to go to the doctor to get them to refer me to the hospital to see if they can do a scan on it and see if there is a problem.  Between work, Uni and actually going to see my Grandad in hospital I've not had chance to go and see the doctor.
