A brand new animation

As I mentioned last week, we started work on a new animation. I'm glad, I don't think I could take listening to that same piece of dialogue many more times before I flipped. It's nice to start something fresh.

I chose a clip from My Family (a British comedy) to do this time. The point of the assignment is animate 2 or more shots (i.e. camera changes).

I really want to nail this piece so I've spent a lot of time planning it out, trying to focus on movement, exaggeration, reversals, contrast etc. etc.

This piece is still in blocking at the moment - it's a 9 week assignment, so we've got plenty of time on it.

Looks good ... only problem is that the lips/mouth do not move !!!

Yeah it's only blocking, no facial animation done yet

Blocking it literally putting down the key poses so that the ideas come through. In a studio environment, you'd need to get this approved by the director (in my case my mentor) before going any further. Facial animation actually doesn't come until almost the end

Oh I can understand you getting pretty tired of the last ones dialogue, lol. It looks as if this will be a good one to work with and I look forward to seeing how it develops. I do like the last expression on him, even though I know full expressions come later. Should be fun to see the progress

Could someone tell me what the two are actually saying, since I didn't understand much of the dialog.

I think I heard something about medical school and dentists.

Looks great Rikki, the second version is definitely improved as well. Good luck with the next steps.

It's funny, my mentor is American (obviously), and he thinks the 2nd person is a woman. I guess a young (male) boy sounds like a woman to him
