Do I get a 360?

Posted by Rikki, 07 April 2006 · 51 views

My fellow IPS staff are currently conspiring to make me buy an XBox 360 which is unfortunate.

The reason I mentioned to them that I was considering it is because I recently bought Oblivion on the PC, but it's giving me grief. I'm fed up of tweaking the ini file to get good performance, and I'm still suffering from intermittent crashes, probably due to my onboard sound. To put it bluntly, I'm spending more time trying to fix it than I am playing it.

So, the prospect of getting a 360 so I can just play Oblivion without problems is appealing. It's going to be £320 to get it though, and no doubt I'd get CoD so I can play against the others when they play. I don't know if I want to spend that.

What do you think? Should I?

Oblivion is supposed to be awesome, I would go for it. I've been wanting to play that and F.E.A.R, but I sold my computer
You know you want one thumbsup.gif
Shhh, 'o conspiring one. I know your opinion already tongue.gif
So today I spent a couple of hours formatting and installing XP Home (I decided that 2003 probably sucks for games, so I partioned and put on XP too), reinstalling all my drivers, reinstalling Oblivion, retweaking it and so on.

I still get freezes. I hate PC's, I truly do.
Oblivion is FIXED!

Oblivion is FIXED!

But you still want a 360 anyway thumbsup.gif
I was having the same dilemma a few weeks ago. I decided against it for a few reasons but the main was that I have my last a level exams coming up, if I get one now there is no way I will revise.

Having passed on my PC a few months ago, I haven't played a game since. I sort of miss it as I use to play something at least once a day.

But £300 is a lot of money and then I would have to get the games as well which are £40 each. Didn't seem worth it to me, even though I love gaming.
Yeah, it's the £300 that's the problem. If it was a bit less I'd get one.

Although my crashing problem is fixed, there's still some issues with it occasionally. Plus I'd like to be able to play it in bed rather than having to be at my desk. But on the other hand, you can't mod the 360 version, and some of the mods are quite cool.

Toughy. Hmm.
Think of it another way: The 360 is about the same price as a mid-tier professional application that you would use on your computer, but you'd likely get more hours (enjoyment) out of the XBox than a similar program (aka Microsoft Office Suite).
Yeah, that's not really selling it for me I'm afraid tongue.gif grin.gif
Buy one or two! Seriously though, you won't regret it. Get Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfigher. That game is so good, it makes me want to cry.

Sample conversation over the past few days:
15:11:36 Rikki: ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I dunno
15:11:38 Rikki: damnnit.
15:11:47 Matt: Get one. Get one.
I got one 15 minutes ago getlost.gif Not only did I get Oblivion, but Far Cry and GRAW too getlost.gif
