Peanut butter animatic time

Posted by Rikki, 21 May 2006 · 24 views

The next stage of the process of my short film was to make an animatic; basically, moving storyboards. You may well have seen this on the extras of animated movie DVD's (Pixar usually includes them for example). The idea behind them is to quickly draw the film out, the collate them as a movie to get a sense of the timing, camera angles and so on. It helps you to check the film will work before spending millions animating it - but it applies to any animated film, not just big budget ones.

So here's my animatic. With storyboards you obviously have to use your imagination somewhat. I'm not much of an artist, but they aren't meant to be masterpieces luckily - many people used stick figures.

I don't know whether I'll put music to this or not at this stage, and the saw effect is very cheap and nasty, it's just there so you know roughly what will be there in the final thing.

Let me know what you think original.gif I'm specifically looking for comments on the story, staging and timing.

Thanks original.gif

Thats really cool! I thought the boss was going to take him to a proper ski slope - not back up the stairs (at least it looked like stairs) Well Done thumbsup.gif
Yeah that was the original idea, but after discussing it with my class, we decided this would be better original.gif Thanks thumbsup.gif
That is quite cool, nice. grin.gif
This is really taking shape quite nicely! I love the boss pushing him off first while in his wheelchair, laughing.gif It's a fitting ending!
Looks great Rikki, did you draw them on computer or scan them in? What did you put it all together on?
Thanks grin.gif

Starnox, I draw it on a Wacom tablet on the computer, and put it together with iMovie.
That's really great Rikki... I was waiting for the next update. grin.gif
That's fantastic. You might not think that you are very good at drawing but I thought those were fantastic. I know they are only sketches but I'm really impressed. Loved the "story" too original.gif
I love it!
