Poker Fun

Posted by , 04 June 2005 · 44 views

We had a poker night at a friends house last night - I'd never played poker before and I didn't even know roughly what the idea was.

Turned out to be great fun! We were only playing with 10p chips so the bets weren't massive, but enough to make it a bit exciting if someone put down 20 chips or something like that. I ended up making £9.50 at the end of the night - enough for a few drinks :)

I was cleaned out once so I had to buy chips to get back in the game, and from then on it was up up up :D Annoyingly I kept getting excited when I had 4 in a row of the same suit, I kept forgetting you need 5 for it to be of any use. :">

Anyone play poker online? Know of somewhere you can play games with very small chips?

For online poker, try pokerstars.com.  You have two options, "play money" or "real money."  And there's regularly tournaments for both types.  You can also join in and leave an open table at will, casino style.

My dad's up to roughly $600,000 (in play money of course).

Edit: There is .com version, by the way, and both should be the same thing.  The .com part appears to be their business front, while the .net is about their software.

Edit2: If you saw my original version, it had pokerstars.net as the address.  However, upon further investigation, I'm not so sure about this version.  It appears incomplete, so to speak, missing features of the .com version, such as the Cashier dialog.  So, I'd recommend downloading the .com one.  However, it all is the same network.
Ah it's another one that needs a download :/ I'm on Mac, I really need one that is Flash/Java.

To be honest I don't even care if its online, I don't mind playing an offline game against the computer or something :)
I remember playing Poker for Polo's/Tic-Tacs in the 5th year common room. One time my friend Phil agreed to cheat with me and give me half the Polo's, so I dealt him 4 Queens and an Ace while the opponent, Aaron's back was turned as he was distracted by my friend Ross. Aaron had about 5 or 6 packs of Polo's and 3 boxes of Tic-tacs, and he tried an incredibly bad bluff on a pair of 4's, Phil also kept raising and when they showed it was ace! My mouth was minty-fresh for several weeks after :D
