Mr. Spock is my hero. Not because he was such a good character, but because his believe was logic. Logic can solve any problem, except believe. So in a logical sence believe is illogical behaviour. I will not go into that discussion.
Johan Cruijff (a well known soccer player) makes the weirdest statements, but finishing them of with: "It's logical". I love that, because when you think of his statements, it is extremely logical, tho it doesn't make much sence. Let me give you an example of a Cruijff-ian statement.
Now how's that for logic.
Every now and again I face a problem which just doesn't seem logical. Thoughts of "How is that possible?" or "That's not logical!" cross your mind. But my experience in life tells me that there is allways a logical explaination for something to happen. Key is, to find it.
When writing software you tend to bump into these illogical problems. These can become quite annoying and tend to cost you a lot of time. I found that the best way to deal with them is to start doing other things. Walk away from the screen and fetch some coffee or something. It helps clear my mind and the logical explaination of the problem almost allways pops up.
The thing with computers is (in contrairy to believe, where it is just faith), is that there HAS to be a logical solution. A computer will only do what you tell it to do. So if a bit is set to 1, somebody told it to set that bit to 1. So the real though problems for which you just cannot find a logical explaination are mind boggling. There is nothing worse then knowing there is a solution (explaination) and not being able to find it. One could see it as a sign of weekness, but it is just the logic being too complex or so simple you just don't see it.
Cruijff is the perfect example of simple logic which you just don't see. This is what makes the man a genious. Not only in soccer, but also (or even more) in statements he makes.
