Well as you all probably would guess yourselves, I am very excited about the Blog release. It's a milestone after the many hours of developing it, but also busy times.
For people wondering who I am and why I developed the Blog, here is a little story.
A couple of years ago I started together with Jabberwocky to work on the MSSQL driver for IPB. The experience I have with databases helped a lot, but it was not an easy task. IPB was designed on MySQL and as such many queries where hard to translate. But we hung in there and made the driver work (that was on IPB1.2).
After that things started to really develop. 1.3 came and the driver was updated accordingly. It was time for my next project... The IPB Oracle driver.
People who have worked with Oracle will probably know that it is a very powerfull database engine, but has many specialities, which makes developing an Oracle driver even harder then a MSSQL one. You have things like CLOBs, database triggers, sequences etc. all required to be able to pull it off. But I did.
Then IPB2.0 came along and I was fortunate to work together with Matt on the drivers. Matt did a great job in making the database abstraction layer more multi-db friendly. But it still was a lot of work making the MSSQL and Oracle drivers for 2.0. You tend to get errors in unexpected places. But the end result is pretty good.
Right now we have many IPB customers running their IPB on MSSQL and Oracle.
Then my attention turned to Blogging. My personal site really gave me the idea. My site is a site I run with a couple of friends, just to chat with eachother. So we are all the main users of the Board. Wouldn't it be cool if we could all have our personal Blog on the site. Together with the experience of making the database drivers I wanted this to be a module which would tightly integrate into IPB.
Well the end result you can all see here on these forums. I am proud of the product and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did developing it.
