French Meat

I am currently spending my days on holiday in France. France is a great country; has some great historic cities; still a lot of nature (especially when you compare that to the Netherlands), etc.

But there is one thing I really dislike in France. The food; or more specifically the meat! The meat here is terrible. I can't understand that the people of France can't seem to buy a decent piece of meat.

For example. When I want a nice beef steak. I have yet to find a store where you can buy one without a layer of fat on it; or seams (sorry; dont know the Englsh word for it) in it. They have good cows here; don't they. Then why can't they get some good meat of it?

Hamburgers; ehm; have you tried it? I have, it doesn't even come close to a good hamburger. You could go to McDonalds yes, but other then that, a decent hamburger is hard to find.

Chicken and fish is ok here tho.

I've been here quite often and everytime I am disappointed about the meat. I like to have a barbeque every now and then. Especially here; when the wheather is good. So I go to the store to get some good meat. It's a no go... decent meat for the barbeque is hard to find. They have some stuff, but it is nothing compared to the meat we have in the Netherlands.

So this time around I was prepared. Before I wnet to France; I bought some decent meat in the Netherlands and took it with me. It was a fest to be able to have a good barbeque here for once.

In the mean time, I am really enjoying my stay, but I will be glad to be back to have a decent beef steak :shifty:

Yeesh! Really? Man, that sucks. To think that since France is in the history books for a long time before America got discovered that food could have been more advanced. LOL Not to imply that America is better is just that it's France. I can't believe something in France sucks!

Every country has its merits. Don't forget it is just my opinion. My taste could be totally different from the French taste.

I don't see what you have against our meat ... it is delicious.
I never heard that foreigner/visitors don't like our meat/food...
IMO we have good meat. What's better than a good french gigot d'agneau ?
You need to try this, or have you ? But it needs some prepartation to coock it.

Or perhaps I have to try dutch beef ;-)

I have tried many types of French food (in fact I am quite often in France). It's probably my taste. But I still take a nice Dutch steak over a French one.

However gigot d'agneua I will remember and try it when I it is on the chart in a restaurant I visit :)

But the French are renouned for their good food! We found a nice little butcher down near St Raphael when we went last year. I love the South of France! :wub:

Yeah that is what bugs me as well. French are supposed to have good food... So either I allways go to the wrong restaurant or my taste is really bad or... well the renounciation is incorrect.

South of France is good indeed...

And I must say I did have some good meals in France; but that was allways fish...

But I could agree with W1lz0r (wow it is always so hard to write... by the way, how did you choose this nick name ?) in the point that french see food is much more exotic compared to the meat we have.

Not really fair is it. These deceases can hit any country. What borthers me tho; is that we are supposed to live in an European Community with open borders... But coverments keep making protectionism rules. It only shows we have a long way to go with Europe.
