Being one who sits at my laptop for over 18 hours a day I tend to want to beta test products often.
For months I had tried to get into the Windows Vista (Longhorn) beta program, but no luck. There were a few sites which actually invited people but I was too late. Though you can subscribe to MSDN people like myself just don't have that kind of money.
I was lucky enough to try it out through many builds since a friend had it, and I have been very impressed. There was (and still is) a bug that running Media Center watching TV after awhile the PC would freeze up. I hope they fix that.
Luckily Office 2007 (12) Beta is out for the public. Again, I'm quite impressed. Microsoft is putting out products like crazy and they are really making them useful! I'm still getting used to working with Word with the new UI but I have to say I love it.
What I love so much about testing products is that I get to have a part in the final product. I suggest, report bugs and see the product grow into its final version.
I think I first started to knowingly "test" products back in 1997, when I started to test out the MMORPG game that I've talked about previously here, Lineage. They didn't take many suggestions but the game was FREE during beta so most of us didn't care. That "beta" lasted about 3 years. Every now and then I go back to play for a month (monthly charges) and find myself bored with it at this point. There were others too, El Kardian, EnSlayers (discontinued), Lineage II.
So lately I've been thinking about whether or not I'm going to get lucky enough to try some of IPS' products before my licenses run out.
I'm hoping to at least test out IPB 2.2 soon, if I get lucky maybe 3.0. With that the new blog of course, not sure if it's version has been decided just yet though.
Of course Invision Vectura is high on my list of things to try, and purchase if it ever comes out.
Well, here's to testing!
Oh, happy 6/6/6 to everyone!
