IP.Converge and IPB

Posted by Matt, 22 March 2006 · 380 views

So far this week I've managed a little bit of everything.

The biggest achievement being adding the IP.Converge installer. Rikki designed and Josh wrote a fairly generic IPS installer framework which I've tweaked for IP.Converge. It's a really nice system that will be used for IPB and IPD to give a familiar look and feel to our products.

I've adjusted it so that most of the database population is done via XML files to reduce the amount of "raw" SQL commands in an insert.php file. Manual inserts can be tricky when database schematics change, etc. IP.Converge only has one such manual insert SQL command which makes things much easier to maintain.

IPB 2.2 continues nicely. IP.Converge integration is totally finished and the new ACP in place. IP.Dynamic rolls on well, too. I've added a few "system" type tools to make maintenance easier. IP.Dynamic has certain 'system' pages (log in form, registration form, etc) and these can now be  updated from a single XML file.

Keep an eye out for some announcements next week.

IP.Converge Installer

I notice you have an EULA on the installer - I hope you guys remember to include one in the gallery, I don't know how many times I mention it, the gallery is still not legally bound under any agreement original.gif

According to the EULA, IP.Gallery is released under the same license than IPB :
QUOTE(IPB License)
Skin packs and Language packs are defined as the group of code, text, and graphics that are exported from the Software using the provided functions of the Software Administration Control Panel. Integrated add-ons for Invision Power Board are released under this Agreement. Purchasing or downloading integrated add-ons constitute an additional, separate instance of this Agreement.

I didnt notice they added that in - however there are still two problems, that was added in for IPB 2.1.x - and was not there in IPB 2.0.x license, which means that many of my gallery downloads are not applied to that license.  Additionally - what about perpetual licenses wink.gif  I'm tempted to buy a perpetual IPB license because I would according to their legally binding agreement - get access to IPG and ICB downloads for life tongue.gif
Not a very good license fix if you ask me original.gif

Also, the way it says "Integrated add-ons" does that mean mods from IPSB or IZE are released under that agreement, oh and if when I download or purchase one of them it constitutes a seperate instance of the agreement, the agreement is for IPB 2.1.x - so can does that mean I get a free license for IPB each time I buy or download gallery tongue.gif

but - at least they have decided to add it in - its a start
