IPS Product Line Release Schedule

Posted by Charles, 15 October 2010 · 7,933 views

Over this summer we have put a lot of work into the IPS applications to get them up to the same level of modern code that IP.Board itself features. If you have been following our blog you will have read about all the new features and enhancements coming to the applications. More blog entries on updates to other applications are coming so keep reading our blog for updates.

You may have noticed that there have not been a lot of releases to our applications over the last couple months. This is because we decided to take a new approach to our development cycle and we are happy to say we are wrapping up development on updates to all of our applications! Anyone who has been a customer of IPS for a period of time knows that we are always reluctant to post any sort of schedules. They are too easy to miss and, when that happens, people tend to get a tad... upset :)

For the first (and who knows: perhaps the last) time we are able to announce a general release schedule. On October 26 we will release IP.Board 3.1.3 which is a maintenance release that addresses many reported bugs and also contains code needed for the upcoming updates to all of our applications. After this release, we plan on releasing either an update or maintenance release to one of our applications every Tuesday through the end of the year! Some weeks there may also be an additional release on Thursday depending on schedule requirements. So that's one or two releases every week through the end of the year! The following applications (not listed in release order) will be released, updated, or see maintenance releases as needed:

  • IP.Blog
  • IP.Chat
  • IP.Content
  • IP.Downloads
  • IP.Gallery
  • IP.Nexus

Once this application update release schedule is complete we will have a new, modern line of applications that work with IP.Board and will be well-positioned for the upcoming IP.Board 3.2 series.

Everyone at IPS hopes you are as excited we are at this aggressive release schedule and the improvements to your community all of these updates will bring!

In addition, not all of the apps are indeed finished yet. We're still working on some, for example I am still finishing up Blog. :)

I assume you are working on IP.Blog 2.3? Any clues as to what's changed?

Thanks,

..Al

I am indeed. :)

There's nothing I can share just now, but I'm fairly sure we'll have some blog entries about it soon.

Blog entries about the blog.
Sounds good

Back in June or July, a release date was stated for v3.1.2 and the add-ons. :D

I hope that the applications are released in the following order:

•IP.Downloads
•IP.Nexus
•IP.Gallery
•IP.Content
•IP.Blog
•IP.Chat

Since the current and future versions of Nexus require the newer IP.Downloads, it'd be nice to have that first, so that when Nexus (final) is released, obviously Nexus needs to come after Downloads. Being it's a new product that is highly anticipated, I'm hoping that'll be a reason for releasing it early on. The Gallery looks like it's gonna kick ass so it'd be nice to have that, followed by Content for it's new features. The final two just seem to make sense after that.

:D Now to cross my fingers and hope and pray. Anyone wanna take bets on the order of the releases? (Not real money, just a pool. Considering the options, I'd say there are 600 possible outcomes on this.)

I'd be happy with that release schedule. Only one thing though - didn't they say Nexus was coming in October? 26th is the last Tuesday in October... Unless it's a Tuesday-Thursday release of Downloads/Nexus - that'd be sweet! :)

It makes sense to release Content first because of Pagination. I don't know how anyone is using Content without being frustrated about Pagination.

I want IP.Content just so all my databases don't show up in search..
Awesome good job.
I can not wait until 3.1.3 it means the arcade can finally be completed as they are waiting on that.
Will the updates to the applications (namely Gallery 4 and Content 2.1) be compatible with IPB 3.1.3?

I am going to extensively modify my install of IPB (so I will not be upgrading my version after installed), and I need to be assured that I can work with Gallery 4 and Content 2.1 from my 3.1.3 install of IPB. Otherwise I will wait until the application updates themselves are released to install the then-current version of IPB - This is not optimal for me as I would like to start development as soon as possible and then install the applications when released.

Thanks.
Yes, most of the applications will both be compatible with and require IPB 3.1.3.

October was just a time-frame of when we'd like to get it out, it wasn't anything official. This blog entry is the only official news regarding release dates and schedules.
can we have 1 more presale of nexus!

That is almost good enough :)

Can anyone from IPS tell me for sure at this point in time that Gallery 4 and Content 2.1 will be compatible with Board 3.1.3?

I need this information to determine if development on our website can start when 3.1.3 is released, or if I have to wait until the applications themselves are released. (ie - say Board 3.1.4 is released BEFORE Gallery 4, and Gallery 4 requires 3.1.4 - this would be a very large setback for us if we started to heavily modify 3.1.3 and had to reinstall 3.1.4!)

Thanks again.

IP.Gallery 4.0 and IP.Content 2.1 will be compatible with IP.Board 3.1.3.
It would be very helpful to new IPB community members like me, if IPB Staff could have some clear marking on their avatars as 'staff'. Otherwise I don't know who is representing the company without clicking through to their mini-profile page.
It's Tuesday. Tick tock IPS
All staff have logos in their avatars, and also an IPS Staff group badge - so we're easy to spot. That said, avatars do not show up in blog comments..

Our Tuesday releases do not start until after IP.Board 3.1.3's release on October 26th :)

Perhaps blog comments display names could be colour coded as default. :)
