The Social Groups application allows for the creation of special interest oriented groups on your website. The basic idea behind the app is very similar to the groups system on Facebook, but it expands upon the idea to provide more features than a simple Facebook group page. This app is perfect for any community where there are multiple sub-interest groups within the site. This app will facilitate the creation of a tighter knit community through the creation of more intimate and specialized interactions. It allows for sites with tens of thousands of members to provide a specialized niche for each member without crowding the site. So whether you are a gaming clan trying to organize separate factions or a large community centered around a hobby (cars) or an educational focus (university), you can serve the needs of your members' unique interests with this app.

Mass Messaging - Need to get a message out to all of the members of your group quickly? Well, you now can send them all a Mass Private Message to ensure that they are aware of all of the happenings within your group.
Unique Forum with Sub-forum Functionality - Each time a group is added, a matching forum is also created. Group Admins have the ability to control permissions for this forum based on whether or not people are a member of the group. They can also create separate, private access sub-forums for group ranks such as staff members. You can control how group forums appear in the forum index. Each group forum features the group's sidebar navigation and personalized header.
Group News - Groups are able to add news topics to their group portal to make sure the latest happenings are always visible to their members.
Member Control - Group admins are able to control and create an unlimited number of group member ranks to provide tailored functionality for different features of the group. A robust banning feature helps to ban those pesky troublemakers from a group to keep things civilized.

Good idea!
But this app contains a very large number of minor bugs...

I really hope the developer will correct them...

This is a great application., To me, bugs are defined as coding errors. Any coding errors that have appeared have been corrected in a timely manner by the developer as evidenced by his multiple releases of the application in the past 6 months since it was released. I do not agree that there are a "very large number of minor bugs." The application is limited in its ability to be translated. Is that a bug? No. Is it is a limit in its features? Yes.

Very well documented and supported application. Await the day it supports multiple forums per group (which will unfortunately require a renewal by the time this happens)

This is one of the top features on my "todo" list for this app, so as soon as I start adding new stuff, this will be included hopefully.

Have just bought this and spent an hour or so setting it up for the forums and creating the first group on it. I have to say that this is a fantastic mod. One of the largest application mods I've ever had, and frankly it's worth the money. Can highly recommend this mod.

Is there any chance of members of groups being able to upload photos to the group - just to the group, rather than to the IP.gallery section which the whole board usually has access too. That way, only the group members would see those photos? Hope so, it would be great!

Hey, I am glad that you are enjoying the mod! I actually am working on a completely new version of the application right now and my top 2 new features to include are gallery and calendar so it is very likely that something like that will be included in the next release (it is still in very early stages of development so it may be awhile before it is released). I will post updates as I get closer to releasing it.
