This simple hook blocks users from registering if they have records on stopforumspam.com or projecthoneypot.org. This is an alternative hook to JGrucza's Forum Spammer IP & Email Check via stopforumspam . There are some differences between the two. First mainly being it can use cURL if allow_url_fopen is disabled when checking StopForumSpam's database. Secondly, It supports ProjectHoneyPot. Third, I needed a whitelist... so that is included. Lastly, It also can send you an email upon a user being blocked.

If you combine this hook with registration Q&A challenges and the IPS Spam Service, it will give spammers a hard time.

NOTES

If you want to use Project Honeypot, you must sign up and request your own API key.
Recently Project Honeypot's API has been going online/offline all willy-nilly.
If StopForumSpam's or Project Honeypot's API goes down... spammers can get past this check.

Features:

Enable/Disable StopForumSpam DB Checking
Enable/Disable ProjectHoneyPot DB Checking
Spammers blocked stats on board index.
Whitelist IP & Email.
Works with cURL if you have allow_url_fopen disabled.
Email block reports to an email address (both HTML and Plain Text compatible).
Select match type (IP Address, Email Address, Either of them or both of them) for StopForumSpam checks.
Set threat threshold for ProjectHoneyPot checks.
Change the message shown to the blocked user.
Redirect the spammer to a URL.

Worked like a charm has blocked over 50 spammers within 4 hours of being live. Worth it.

great. works well out of the box and has stopped spambot registrations from even getting as far as the other security measures in place like captcha, questions, and the IPS spam service !!!
