IP.Gallery 3.1.0 now in testing

Icon 42 Comments
We are pleased to announce that IP.Gallery 3.1.0 is now in the beta testing stage, and has been installed on this board for public testing! This update brings many refinements, performance optimizations, and new features, including:

Friendly URLs
IP.Gallery now makes full use of the IP.Board FURL system. Categories, albums, images and more now have the friendly URL structure you're familiar with.

Image notes
Image owners are now able to add notes to sections of their images, positioning and resizing them to suit. Other members will be able to see the notes when hovering over the image. (An example)

Image rotation
Images can now be rotated in 90° increments, to compensate for those photos taken in landscape or portrait, but saved in the wrong orientation.

New slideshow
We have completely rewritten the slideshow feature! It is now a unified interface, loading images on demand as necessary. Users can play or pause the slideshow at will, or jump to specific photos using the thumbnail bar.

Profile picture album
You can now create a new kind of album, a 'Profile Picture' Album. After this album has been created, any images that you upload to it will be displayed on the change picture page in your User CP, making them easy to select as your profile image.

Sub albums
Albums now support unlimited sub albums, which work exactly like gallery sub categories.

Category & album covers
It is now possible to specify one of the images in a category or album to be the cover of that category or album. If a cover image is specified, it will always be displayed for that category or album, instead of the last image thumbnail.

Friends-only albums
When creating an album, users can now choose to restrict viewing to only those users who are on their friends list.

Reputation support in comments
We have added support for IP.Board's reputation feature in comments posted within IP.Gallery.

Interface tweaks
We have updated the style of categories so that larger versions of the image are used, to give more impact. The image listing has also been updated, and will now show as many images on a row as the users browser can fit. This should improve the display of IP.Gallery for users who have higher screen resolutions. The image view screen has also been improved, including support for those features mentioned above.

Look around the Gallery we have installed here on the IPS community and let us know any bugs or issues you come across in the Tracker. We hope you enjoy using the new features in this update!

Sweet :) The gallery is the most used application on my forums(besides my forums). I guess my members will be in love with it :)

Rikki, I've never had the inclination to kiss a guy, but you are getting cute.

Loving the new look & features. Image notes is awesome and I like the way you implemented them. Is there a way to denote somewhere on the image that it has notes without having to hover over it? Something small and inconspicuous so that you don't have to know you have to hover over it to even know there are notes? Also, is it possible for other members besides the owner to add notes to an image? Perhaps an album setting? ... Maybe even allow members to 'link' to their note in their comments (scrolls the page to the top and highlights the particular note in the image)?

Awesome work guys. Huge leaps and bounds over the old version already Posted Image

[edit] Just saw the new slideshow. Very nice :D

If an image has notes, it'll say so under the image info on the right hand side, and on the category listing screen there's a count in the image info.

I'd like to expand the notes feature in future, but right now only the image owner can modify notes (well, moderators too, but mainly so they can handle problematic ones). In future it'd be nice to perhaps allow friends to add notes too perhaps. I'd also like to add the ability to tag a forum member, rather than just add text. Things for the future though ;)

Haha, feel free to say that more :D

Thanks for the great feedback, Josh and I appreciate it! We already have more ideas for the next update, but we hope this update makes people happy :)

Just an observation... I can only view the image note on the "feather" picture by using "compatability" view in IE8.

Still pretty cool tho... :)

Very nice.

I wish you display list of albums on the right sidebar on the profile like facebook. So it will be easier to navigate for users.

Looks great, can't wait to get this running on my forum!

Some comments:

1) When displaying a list of galleries, would be nice to see a count of how many images are in the gallery:

http://community.inv...embers-gallery/

Somewhere below the image thumb would be nice.

2) The new slideshow looks nice. Would it be possible to use the left and right arrows to move through the images?

3) I'm seeing a blue selection box when I click on any of the navigation buttons (previous image, play, next image). When the mouse button is held down over one of these buttons, the box turns red. Also seeing this when clicking the "X" button in the upper-right corner. Using Firefox 3.5.5.

4) When viewing an image, can you link the member's photo thumbnail to their profile?

5) Can you make it so that clicking the image itself pops up the full-size version of the image (the same as clicking the magnifying glass icon)? I would also move that icon below the image, as it detracts a bit from the image below it.

6) If an image is being scaled, it would be nice to see at what percentage the image is being displayed at, similar to how image scaling works in the main forum.

Thanks!

Well done guys, fantastic.

Yes tags would be good and also some kind of Flickr integration would be nice, so you could have virtual albums that display images on Flickr but from within the Invision Gallery.

Hopefully the FURL will make it much easier to use in conjunction with IPB3.0's skin mapping. Yesterday I mapped a specific skin to a specific set of all sub-categories and albums within my gallery, it took about 25-30 entries to do it, but still when you click on an image it uses the default/members choice of skin. Now with FURl in the gallery, hopefully I can my that skin to all urls containing a certain word and it will use that skin on everything that matches including the image views and not just all the albums and category links I manually listed.
