  1. LaCollision added a post in a topic: Bring Back "Best Answer" Button

The Q&A topics must be able to be mixed with regular topics in forums.
Specific Q&A forums don't work in an existing forum structure that we all have. That was heavily discussed in the IPS 4 preview website.

    Changing avatar: no crop handles
After uploading a new avatar, the "crop handles" don't appear.

  3. LaCollision added a post in a topic: Pop-up buttons: small UI request

    Hi there,
IPS has made the excellent choice to put the validation button on the bottom right corner in the pop-ups, like that:

So I was wondering if it is possible, in the "follow" topic pop-up, to put the "Update preferences" at the bottom right corner.
The way it is right now:

    The way it should be:

    Thank you
  4. LaCollision added a post in a topic: Members geolocation and forum restriction

    Hi there,
As the member geolocation is a built-in feature, I was wondering if it is possible in IPS 4 to hide a forum for a specific location.
For instance, if I create a forum, I would like to display it for specific countries only.
If it's not a feature, is it something IPS would like to implement?
    Thank you

For topics, the drop down menu is not handy; it should much higher to display more forums (depending on the viewport size), and to avoid unnecessary scrolling.

  8. LaCollision added a post in a topic: Is a licence valid for sub-domains?

    Hi there,
I currently own a licence for my IP apps on my domain .
I would like to know if it is valid for subdomains, like , , or if I need to buy new licences.

    Thank you for your answer!
This issue is not really a problem for forum posts, but for the calendar… that's annoying!
  11. LaCollision added a post in a topic: Is there a bug in IPS date management?

    Hi there,
I'm completely not sure about what I'm going to say; it's just a question that annoys me pretty much.
The problem is about the dates that are displayed in the forum.
For instance for a post date, if you look at the skin templates, you can see that:
$this->registry->getClass('class_localization')->getDate($post['post']['post_date'],"long", 0) That displays a post date, from the "post_date" field, which is a timestamp.
And the getDate() function does something like that:
return @gmstrftime( $format, ($date + $this->offset) ); So, it basically adds "$this->offset" to the date we want to display.
    But what is "$this->offset" ?
It is the time offset of the current member (or guest) viewing the board.
This time offset is calculated in the getTimeOffset() function, also in the class_localization.php.
For instance, if a member has "Europe/Paris" as a default timezone, this time offset value is 1 during the winter, and 2 during the summer (the DST is active).
Here is the problem: this time offset is calculated for the present time .
So it works well when the member is reading recent forum posts.
But isn't there an error, when the member reads several months old posts ?
For instance, in my "Europe/Paris" example, if the current time is during the spring (time offset = +2), and the member is reading a post dating from the winter time, the time offset will still be +2.
… and the displayed post date for this message is wrong.
Shouldn't the time offset be calculated depending on the wanted date, and not only from the current time?
    Am I wrong?
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks for your help!

I KNEW I'm the only one interested in that idea
  13. LaCollision added a post in a topic: [Feature request] Add a "date" timezone sensitive BBcode

    Hi there,
Dealing with dates on a forum is not easy, especially when you have members all across the globe.
Often, when you post a date in a forum post, you have to explicitly precise the timezone, and the reader has to calculate the result for his own timezone.
That's really not friendly, and even a shame, knowing that the member timezone is already stored in his settings!
So, it would be gorgeous to have a "date" BBCode that automatically calculates a date according to the member's declared timezone.
    For instance :
[date]2014-06-24T16:13:21+02:00[/date] … would give the date in the reader's timezone.
    Bad idea?
    Thanks for reading!

Upgrading from 3.1.4 to 3.3.4, that's a lot of work.

upgrading from 3.0.5 to 3.1.2, seems like a piece of cake

    1. Renita

Did this yesterday, all worked like a charm!

    2. Amy T

I hope it is just as easy to go form 2.3.6 to 3.1.2 as I might be doing that soon.

    3. AndyF

@Amy, it is :) , take a backup first obviously. Tip of the day: if you have custom avatars / emoticons (added into /style_x etc) move these over after, in theory it does move them but I always find its ten times easier to just copy them across after.

Thank Andyf, maybe I will buy the gallery at the same time.

I had to go through some headaches with this minor revision, but all in all, everything works fine.
