I recently moved my forum from a vps over to IPS and I would highly recommend it IF you exceed usage you do not get "cut off" as with most host's, IPS will inform you and automatically move you up to the next hosting package to ensure you stay online. The difference in cost wise with the packages is not a lot so probably worth getting one slightly higher but support will keep you right on that. You will have full ftp access Support moved my site for me and were absolutely brilliant in doing so, cleaned up old un-needed files and tidied up a few problems for me. Personally I have no regrets and wish I had moved to IPS years ago, hope this helps
Can only speak for myself but it sounds very fair to be offered $100 "cashback" instead of like with many companies it just becomes "end of life" and that's it.
Personally I have a licenece which in honestly is now surplus since I recently made the move to IPS hosting, so why would I want or need to keep a seperate licence ?
Over the years of having IPB I have not had a lot of contact with the support team, more through luck really than of me having any skills lol
Well the host my forum was on were gradually getting more expensive and the server seemed to constantly be running worse and worse, I had previously thought about moving over to IPS hosting a couple of times but since I had been with the present host a long time I kept putting it off.
Well this week I took the plunge and was dealt with by Rhett Buck
I cannot praise him enough and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for him, though some of my scottish slang terms did not translate well to the states lol
Truthfuly though it was a shining example how all companies should deal with customers and has left me very excited for our small forum based around scottish fly fishing to be a part of the IPS hosted family.
The release date is : 2014 other than that no-one knows and no specific date is EVER put on a release which involves a MASSIVE amount of work before hand, read the blogs and you will realise just how much work is going into it :)
Seriously ! If it is rushed too much because customers keep nagging it means cutting corners which I know IPB will not do.
Personally I never upgrade to the new version until at least the x.1 comes out and the main glitches are sorted out and can never understand why people "dive in" and upgrade immediately and then moan about these glitches which come to light on live boards that are modified.
Really folks, sit back and relax it will come when it is FULLY ready for the public :)
I can't imagine it will, to my knowledge IPB 4 is going to carry major changes which I imagine will hold big skin changes with it so you may want to ensure your designer is going to fully upgrade the skin for you as part of the deal or be prepared to do the edits yourself :)
I find on the occasions I ask a question it is usually answered very quickly without having to go raising tickets and taking someone away from more pressing work.
Think i've only had 1 ticket because it was a total "stumped" case lol
Yes, it could not be easier imho. You can either upload the files and run upgrades yourself as I do most times or use the automated system within the client area here at IPS which works wonderfully and does it all for you :D
I only do it myself because my board is fairly customised and i'm a control freak
Hope that helps you to choose to switch to the best software on the net :)
Well I do get where you are coming from Wolfie and of course everyone has their own opinions, personally I believe it can be a useful add-on when used wisely.
I use it myself at times though only for specific user groups to ensure they all get the required info for our meet ups (fishing).
I don't believe a member should be able to not receive ADMIN mails, it is the admin's site and it may be important info
