Hmm. Thing is, some of the downloads would be 'paid' items . I want to protect the files by only allowing access from the download button. So it seems the only way to do that is store on the dedicated server...right?
In v3, I had an issue with using FTP for the 'Downloads' application...my FTP credentials were shown in the url. How has this been addressed in v4? My scenario is running the site on a dedicated server, but storing the download content on a shared server via FTP.
CPanel and Plesk can be configured with a SimpleScript ( http://www.simplescripts.com/ ) option that seamlessly installs and updates with minimal effort. I've used this for wordperss, Joomla, and other forum software. What are the prospects of IPB getting on that list?
Perhaps a static category list with a jquery sub list that is scrollable and updates more when reaching the bottom? Selecting a particular product could explode its details rather than loading a new page outside the list. That's a concept tha comes to mind.
I only have 26 files in my downloads app, but it seems to be a pain for visitors to navigate through the catalog. My fear is that when I reach 100 files, no one will bother to explore them all. When I'm in a file (like http://goo.gl/o1UjO ), there is no option to got to "next" or "previous" file. More clicks than desired are necessary to display a few files. Has this been a discussion among developers?
Please add this as an option. Here's an example through my challenge: U have music loops for download, and a download file can span multiple styles, so instead of restricting to category, I let users add tags. When someone wants some slow paced loops, they can type "slow" and get all related files. Also there are so many genres I don't want users to get lost in the category list. Instead they can type rock, fusion, jazz, or whatever the author used as a tag.
It would be nice to have an option to set the search combination as default.
IP.SEO working sweet on my board. But then again my offerings are probably somewhat unique. But some simple searching has my board on all the 1st page results. My board is only a few months old with <90 users. Haven't even marketed the site yet.
