Hmm. Thing is, some of the downloads would be 'paid' items . I want to protect the files by only allowing access from the download button. So it seems the only way to do that is store on the dedicated server...right?
In v3, I had an issue with using FTP for the 'Downloads' application...my FTP credentials were shown in the url. How has this been addressed in v4? My scenario is running the site on a dedicated server, but storing the download content on a shared server via FTP.
CPanel and Plesk can be configured with a SimpleScript ( http://www.simplescripts.com/ ) option that seamlessly installs and updates with minimal effort. I've used this for wordperss, Joomla, and other forum software. What are the prospects of IPB getting on that list?
I had the same FTP credential issue when I first bought IPS...it was the a huge oversight for me because my site depends on secure downloads. So now I just use local server storage until someone can come up with a better solution. I hear google is gonna offer a more competitive prices against Amazon S3. Maybe some could extend IP.Downloads to take advantage of low-cost 3rd party storage.
I did notice that and mentioned it somewhere in this forum...currently its a high priority issue for me because I need to offload storage to FTP, but cannot rely on the current script because it reveals access credentials. Not sure if IPS is looking into this.
