Is there any documentation on how to use it for something like this? Found this page , but it only keeps talking about master/slave applications, and since I have never ever delt with the IPB API, I'm basically lost.

Also the cms/forum are in different directories so I am unsure as to how that would affect things such as making it as a application.

What system is that? o.O Well I guess I'm partially also against IP Content since the budget cant exactly match the usage of something like that at this point. :/

Hello all, I'm currently working on developing a front end CMS for my website, the forum is powered by IPB and I really would be interested in any ideas on how to manage logins. I thought of branching into the IPB API and managing logins and users 100% through the forum, and just extending it to the front end, but I can see several flaws in that concept. 1, I could have possible security holes if I miss something or mistakenly set something up incorrect. 2, Any updates to IPB could result in the front end login breaking until I fix it. and 3, shared database connections could lead to a major security hole if it is ever breached. Pros would be, only having to register/login once.

I also thought of the concept of building a separate login system on its own database. But the cons there are multiple registrations that may seem annoying to some users, it would however be less of a security risk to the forum, and have a easier disaster recovery plan in the event of a security breach *because it could extend no further from the front end CMS*. This method also would be much easier.

Yes, I am aware that IPS does have IP Content, but I just felt more like making my own front end because for me, its easier than having to deal with any learning curve. Plus I just feel that it may give more control *but not as far as logins are concerned*

So I'm really interested in some input on this subject. Let me know honest thoughts, or if you feel like sharing a story regarding this go right ahead!

I can agree that this hook is not working.

So it turns out that it works for everyone. Besides me. -_-' Oh well, as long as it works. Must be some strange cookie or sessions error.

So as far as I know, my Facebook connect was working up until today. I setup https for logins and now Facebook connect no longer runs. I logged out and clicked the Facebook icon to test registration through Facebook to have the url return "www.mysite.com/myforum/#_=_" Needless to say nothing actually happens on the forum other than you returning to the forum index with no login.

I did some research before posting and found someone who had this issue that was using "Path Info" instead of "Query String" and claimed that Path Info caused issues. I am not, nor have I ever used Path Info so It cannot be my url type. I'm genuinely confused as to what could be causing this issue. :/ I mean, it seems like it should be working. I've also tested it on three web browsers. The SSL certificate does indeed work. I can login to the forum normally, just not with Facebook connect.

I checked the admin log did not see any errors.

As always I look forward to a great discussion!

    EDIT

In addition I have found that activating facebook connect from within your profile, does work. After which, you CAN login with facebook. But registering a new account on the forum with facebook seems completely broken. :/

So here is a layout of what all happens and scenarios.
Click facebook icon. Redirected to facebook Accept app Re directed to forum index with not registration screen. :/
Login to forum manually. Go to profile/edit Enable facebook connect and link your account. Logout Log back in with facebook.
So now time to figure out why registration wont work. *puts on thinking cap*

    EDIT #2

Twitter connect works just fine. Still a no go on facebook though.

I did the same thing in the past with PHPBB 2.0

    Thanks a bunch! Worked 100% :)
  10. Flash6199 added a post in a topic: Locked out of full admin permissions by accident?

So today I was making a new group on my forum who had restricted admin permissions "such as not being able to change other admins stuff." I accidentally set my own secondary group to them, and now I can't set myself back, or change anything else for that matter.

I went ahead and opened my database up in PHPMyAdmin thinking it would be a simple fix. I changed my group back to "4" and set my secondary group back to ,4, as well. Refreshed the page, but yet every time I try to edit myself I get:

I also am unable to see all the admin tabs "because the restrictions I setup prevent from seeing them". Though I don't see why the restrictions are still in affect since I manually set myself to the administrators group. o.O But sure enough, they are persisting it would seem to limit me from doing anything that I actually need to be able to do.

I have tried to re cache everything, but I still am not seeing any permission changes.

So right now my group is = 4
My secondary group is = 4

But I still can't do everything. Did I miss some setting somewhere?

I look forward to hearing from you!

    EDIT

Oh and I forgot to mention, in the ACP it does list me as "Administrator" I just have a bunch of ACP restrictions yet... ^^;;; So really the restrictions are what won't go away.
