Like the title states I'm having a problem with renaming my admin directory. I've been through all tutorials and other help topics but without any success. So I'm sorry if my topic is a copy.
To start this I want to mention that I use the .htaccess mod_rewrite function for friendly URL. So there is a .htaccess file in root directory.
I've followed the tutorial using the constants.php function. This only results in a 500 error. The redirect points to the right directory but is still gives the error. So changing my admin directory to let's say supersecureadmin and adding that to the constants file redirects the board to mysite,se/supersecureadmin/index.php, but still gives the 500 error. Restore everything and it works again...
Oh yeah, changing the directory name using initdata.php also results in the same error.
I have set the "Create new topic when file is submitted" to enabled and chosen a category for it. This worked on my first upload and a topic was created.
Then all of a sudden the feature stop working and will not create a new topic no matter what I do.
I did change the category to where the topic should be created and after that it just stopped working.
I've been through the settings and permissons but cant find anything suspicious.
I too would like to pay for a very minimal skin. Something like php fusion ( http://www.php-fusion.co.uk/forum/index.php )or the very famous flashback.org. A theme with straight lines and little space between categories and so on.
Don't know if someone already made a skin but I can't find any real minimal skins with a minimal use of images and other bloat stuff.
Well, nothing of the above works. Tried the mod_rewrite but that tells you nothing about where to put the .htaccess file. I'm guessing in the /forum/ folder...
Tried the .htaccess from the content advanced settings, that doesn't work either.
Tried to mix them both.
Tried using one while not using the other which of course didn't work...
Thanks though for trying to help. Amazing how hard it can be to get something right that should work from the start based on the steps that comes with the download...
Ok, I have it all set up now. The forum are in the /forum folder and the IP Content is running as main and default. Everything works except for the problem mentioned above. I'm thinking maybe it's a Friendly URL problem?
The header title is fixed, i did that by changing the default_header template but the problem with redirection after a log out and a login is still there. After logging in or out you get redirected to /forum/ and it can't find the forum.
But as mentioned earlier when using the url /forum/index.php?/ then it works. I have created a test account if you want to see the problem yourself.
I'm currently trying to move the forum on the main site now to see if it'a a database thing. I'll let you know soon if I need more assistance.
Edit: Well that didnt go as planned. Moving the installation to another folder resulted in a database url error so im re installing the entire site. Maybe that will do the trick.
Now to hope that the database backup will recover all my stuff.
I have not added the constants.php. I did try to edit the initdata.php but since I don't really know what to edit and nothing worked I reverted back to the original initdata.php.
There must be a url to edit somewhere since it's the forum app that can't be located. It can only be accessed by using the menu link that points to forum/index.php?/index
I'm doing all the changes on my test site. Not the original site. To avoid major errors since I have to move the entire forum to the /forum folder and I need everything to work after that.
The test site have the IP Content running as default and working.
First off, I'm sorry if this issue have already been posted and answered. I have searched for it but not found any solution for my problem.
I'm using IP Content as my main page and it works just fine. Typing mywebsite.com works as it should and it shows my IP Content page. When I click the "Forum" button it redirects me to the forum just fine and everything works there as well.
My forum is located in a /forum folder and I have managed to set up the index.php with a htaccess file and it all works.
My problem is. Whenever I log in, click the logo, and type mywebsite.com/forum nothing happens. I get the following error
"Sorry, we could not locate the page you are requesting to view."
Iv'e noticed that the link from the forum button is mywebsite.com/forum/index.php?/index (which is the working path) and not mywebsite.com/forum.
What have I done wrong and/or what should I change?
To me a recommendation is not the same thing as limiting what you are able to do. Not being able to even install a language which is a pretty vital function is bad code to me.
It was a short experience with IPB but I'm forced to change the Forum Software. This was a expensive experience to say the least...
And yes, blah blah blah, I can go through all the translations by hand, but that's not the point. A $200 dollar software that can't handle it's own function is not worth supporting. I don't don't care what it "recommends"! If it installs it should work... Actually, even many of the free forum softwares have more settings and functions than this. I can't even add custom profile fields without messing with the php by hand?!?
And I also asked for help but instead got a ignorant answer about that it's my hosts problem and not the software. To me it's the other way around based on my last line. Great community. Not at least surprised if many other feel the same way as me.
