  1. Cheapy added a post in a topic: Email notifications text should wrap - looks bad on mobile

Why can't the text wrap under the user avatar?  A lot of wasted space...

  2. Cheapy added a comment on a blog entry: 4.0 - Cover photos

Would it be crazy to think this would make forum threads look a little bit cooler?
  3. Cheapy added a comment on a file: Content Spy

It would be cool if thread previews were available.
  4. Cheapy added a post in a topic: Users can change display name to a banned user's name - No good.

Nevermind, one of our users used a lowercase "L" in place of an "I". My apologies.
  5. Cheapy added a post in a topic: Users can change display name to a banned user's name - No good.

No, I do not manually put a user's display name into the ban filter after I ban them.
  6. Cheapy added a post in a topic: Users can change display name to a banned user's name - No good.

It would be great if something was in place to prevent users from changing their display names to names of users who have been banned. I obviously don't need to explain why this is a problem.
  7. Cheapy added a comment on a blog entry: 4.0 - Email templates

Looking good. Was hoping to see what daily digests and topic notifications look like.
  8. Cheapy added a comment: Huge amount of follows causes extreme posting delays.

IPS's response is unacceptable to me.  As a customer, that should concern them.

Name another product or service with customer support like this:

    1) There is no response via email, twitter, or private message on their own support forum.
    2) There is no phone number to call.
    3) If you do not like the response from overly defensive customer support rep/developer on the community support forums and want to discuss the issue further, publicly or privately, the community blindly rushes to the defense of the company
    4) Then you are told you aren't allowed to discuss it any more.

If you are an IPS Client, I'm sorry that I have an issue with IPS and I'm sorry if I have offended you or if the public nature of this issue is making you uncomfortable.  If you put me on your ignore list and don't visit this bug report any more, you will never have to deal with me again and you can still benefit from the fixes we are pushing for.  Everybody wins.

All I want to do is discuss this issue further.  I'm not calling anybody at 3AM or showing up on their front door.  I'm posting on a message board, which is the only method of contact I have with Invision Power Services, Inc.
  9. Cheapy added a comment: Huge amount of follows causes extreme posting delays.

    I've "poisoned" two topics:
    1. This bug report which we discovered/submitted
    2. The thread about large IPB sites which this issue affects

If this issue is not affecting you, are you coming in this bug report thread just to "poison" it?
Why exactly are you here?   Why is it ok for you to assume "wtf we deal with"?

These are rhetorical questions, btw.  Feel free to put me on your ignore list. However, I noticed it doesn't work on bug reports.

Just to put things in perspective, I sent an email to the President of Best Buy and got a response in a few days.
I sent a message to the President of IPS and we are coming up on 1 month with no response.
  10. Cheapy added a comment: Huge amount of follows causes extreme posting delays.

Just one. Still waiting on a single private message reply from a month ago.
None of this needed to be posted out in the open. The IPS devs are SO defensive of their 10 years old software design that they would prefer to have Internet arguments like this than a much more productive discussion in private.

Their "fix" is not a fix at all. If you read through the posts, rather than take IPS at their word, you can see why we are not satisfied.

I'm happy for you that you don't have 200 users interested in following a specific thread on your sites. This problem doesn't affect you. You are lucky, I guess.

This is for the benefit of ALL present and future IPB customers and has the potential to affect everyone who uses the notification system. If it doesn't happen to affect you now, that's great, but you are arguing against your own interests and really don't have a complete understanding of the situation. If you want to blindly defend IPB because you use it, I guess that's your prerogative.

Awaiting a response on this please, either in private or public.
  12. Cheapy added a comment: Huge amount of follows causes extreme posting delays.

How are we doing on this?

My users are I are annoyed that we have to constantly wait 15-30 seconds for posts to be submitted.

I am completely underwhelmed on support we've received on this issue.  We are now one of the largest IPB sites out there.  One would think you would make even the slightest effort to address the situation with us, but I can't even get your president to OPEN a private message.

It's time to make a big stink about this on Cheap Ass Gamer and [twitter]videogamedeals[/twitter] and see if that can get you guys to move a little faster.

Look for the post this week, tentatively titled, "Invision Power Board is Unusable for Active Forums".   At the very least, I can prevent another active forum making the same mistake we did.
  13. Cheapy added a comment on a blog entry: Community in the Cloud, New Support Package, and Transfer Promo

What is the feasibility of supporting a site with 2,000-10,000 users online?
Do you have any clients of that size now?
  14. Cheapy added a comment: IP.Board Mobile doesn't show current page nr or jump menu

Seriously, its going to take 2 years or more to get this fixed?

Still no page numbers, no go to first/last pages...etc.

Hi Cheapy, when did you switch to IP.Board? Did you notice any decline in traffic?

    1. Cheapy

That is kinda hard to tell. Having other issues though:

    2. joelle

Wow, such delays are pretty bad if you want to keep an engaged community. Thanks for your reply.

    3. Cheapy

      Its a mess.

    4. joelle

It sure is. Hopefully that will change. Just out of curiosity, are you using Skimlinks/ Viglink on your board or did you create your own affiliate plugin? I would also like to use automatic link affiliates but I am hesitating using Viglink.
