Ultimately, that's what I want - yes. But that's not what I'm asking for. I'm asking how to pull custom profile fields, or standard fields - and show different content blocks based on that.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for!

I'm not really needing custom coding. No one needs to come up with code specifically for my extra options. Just looking for some general codes to pull from default fields in the search box.

That way everyone can utilize what's given, and alter to fit their particular boards needs.

Nobody knows how to accomplish this? To be able to personalize content blocks based on user profile data would be so useful to so many people.

Has anyone figured this out? I really want to setup a goal of a forum restration

Here's what I'd like to do. I'm sure it's possible, probably with some sort of if/then statements, but let me know what the best solution is - or if any of you have done this before.

I run a football site and forum. When people register, they choose their favorite team. It's a custom field in their profile that I created for them. They choose from a drop-down list.

On the homepage, and various pages, I'd like to be able to display a news feed that caters to the user's selected favorite team.
    ______

So for example, for anyone that selects "Tennessee Titans" as their favorite team, I'd like to have a block that displays the 10 latest articles (via RSS) from the Tennessee Titans content category.
    ______
In other words, show a different rss feed block to users, depending on who they have selected as their favorite team.

    Thanks for the help :)

    Not quite what I'm asking.

I don't want to pull in the slider to the topic, just the individual image that is attached to the specific article (that just so happens to be used in the slider).

As I'm typing this, I'm realizing this has nothing to do with the slider hook however, haha.

Is it possible to pull the image on the slider, into the forum topic (at the top) as well?

I notice that there is a spot for blog posts to show in the profile. What about articles through IP.Content?

    Tried it... didn't work :(

    I'm on Chrome.

The hyphens aren't a huge deal - but still looking for the perfect solution.

Regardless, to get this far is absolutely outstanding. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me.

I uploaded the file as "Denver Broncos Forum.png" but the image wouldn't show.

    It was searching for "Denver%20Broncos%20Forum.png"

Is there a way to maintain the spaces in the forum name, and have the image load properly.

For a temparary fix, I've re-named my forums "Denver-Broncos-Forum" and uploaded the image "Denver-Broncos-Forum.png" and it works correctly.

Just to clarify.... If say, my sub-forum is called "Denver Broncos Forum" then I would need to save the image as "Denver_Broncos_Forum.png" ??

Anyone know how I would call these icons, instead of the title of the subforums? On the board index....

So, no text. Just the icon associated with the forum.

I figure it has to come from this code... which is located at Board Index > boardIndexTemplate
    <if test="showSubForums:|:$forum_data['show_subforums'] AND count( $forum_data['subforums'] ) AND $forum_data['show_subforums']"> <br /> <ol class='ipsList_inline ipsType_small subforums' id='subforums_{$forum_data['id']}'> <foreach loop="subforums:$forum_data['subforums'] as $__id => $__data"> <if test="showSubForumsLit:|:$__data[3]"><li class='unread'><else /><li></if>

Thank you!! I'll give this a shot and see if it works the way that I hope it will.
If there's any other suggestions on the best way to go about this, I'd love to hear them. I'll report back if this works.
  15. jhutch added a post in a topic: Read/Unread Subforum Images on Board Index

Hey... here's what I'm trying to do.

I want to have sub forums listed underneath the main forum with images instead of text.

My first thought was to add images, linking directly to the subforum, as the forum description. Then, disable the showing of sub-forums on the board index.
That accomplished what I wanted, but there was one major flaw: The ability to see if the sub-forum posts were read/unread.
    _____

Does anyone have a solution for this?

I just want the subforums represented by a forum specific image on the board index (instead of forum specific text), that change based on if their are any read/unread posts.

Here's an example of what the final product would look like:

    ________

I see how all the code works and what not.

It looks like if I knew how to attach a specific image to a forum, I could choose to show that image as the subforum link, by calling the image instead of the title. Then in the css, instead of doing a font style of bold/unbold, I just just set it to show the image to 100% opacity / 50% opacity.

Any idea on how to attach a specific image to a specific forum, and then call it? Maybe there's a hook that i'm unaware of?
