cannot change category of existing entry

I have some entries created under 2.5.1 and older in uncategorized category.
since update to 2.5.2 changing category just adds it to the new chosen one but does NOT remove it from uncategorized.

is there a simple edit I can do to edit my existing ones?

Nope, the only way is to re-edit the entries and un-select the uncategorized category checkbox before saving.

Hmm, could you submit a ticket please? Ask for it to be escalated directly to me referring this bug report.
