closing private chat after user kicked

Whilst testing chat on 3.2, I had cause to kick a user after he tried to spam me in a private chat.
However now I am unable to close the private chat.
The x does nothing.
I was able to close another private chat, so it is not that.
I am using the chat in a pop-up window if that makes a difference in Chrome.
