Hi there,
My community is complaining on that error message more and more.
From investigation, there is no obvious patterns to the behaviour, at random times many of my users can not access the chat service.
It takes then multiple site refreshes to finally establish the connection.

Firebug reporting
"NetworkError: 500 Internal Server Error - http://forum-gitara.pl/chat/"
No errors in apache error log.
string(66) "Operation timed out after 10000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received"
Trying wget from home and from my production
wget http://chatservice.i...hp?api_key=____
Returns string '0,2', so it looks like there is no connectivity issues.

Wanted to do some more digging but it suddenly started working.
Yep I agree that this is not a bug with the IP.Chat code itself, but with the underlaying service it tries to connect to.
Next time it happens I will try to have it black on white clear that it isn't my box playing on outgoing.
Please submit a ticket if you are having issues connecting to the chat service. We'll be happy to investigate for you.
