IP.Chat - Mobile Issue

Hello,  I'm not sure if this is an issue with IP.Chat itself on the mobile device or my phone.

I can load the chat room, but when I click the text area to type something, the keyboard popsup and then quickly goes away as if something else has come up.   I have tested this on my site as well as this site, and it's the same thing on both.

Please let me know if you need anymore info.  Thanks for your help!

What kind of mobile device / browser are you using?

Sorry, I should have stated previously

I was using Motorola Bionic with the stock browser.

I will see what I can do to test this. I'm not sure how easy it will be to test without having that specific phone, however...

Also happens with the dolphin browser.

Doesn't happen with the firefox browser. Hmmm

If you test the full skin, does it happen in IP.Chat there too? Or does the full skin not work at all for you?

It doesn't happen on the full skin, just the mobile skin.

Note to self - double check on the fixed-positioning javascript correction, maybe tie it to iPhone 4 only.

i think all of this phones (and mine) might be using Swype keyboard...

Aisha - I just downloaded dolphin browser for iphone and it worked fine there. What device were you testing on?

I have tested both the dolphin browser and the default browser on Android in the mobile skin and cannot recreate any issues.

Whoops, sorry forgot about this.

Umm I don't know about the details but I have a samsung captivate and I think my version is 2.2. Also, I can't test it on the company forums because I can never access the chat.

This happens to me on the HTC sensation using the Dolphin browser

Dolphin browser works fine for me on iPhone, and Android generally works fine for Ian. There must be some other shared factor that we haven't identified yet.

I just tested a couple of sites with Android version 2.3.5 HTC Sense version 3.5.

When entering chat, and selecting the text area, the keyboard comes up fine and works great.
If you select the back button while in chat with the keyboard open (to close the keyboard) then the keyboard will not come back up on the screen when selecting the text area again.

Even if you refresh chat, the keyboard still won't open.

This issue is still persistant when you are using the mobile skin. Keyboard jumps up and then jumps down before you can ever type anything. If you are using the normal/main skin it works just fine. This has been reported to me from no less than 100 of my members now. I told them to use FF and the main skin as a workaround till the mobile skin issue is fixed.

Have we made any progress?

I'm having a hard time finding anything in IP.Chat itself that would cause this. I have, however, found many various messages on Android support sites of similar issues (keyboard won't open, or opens and closes quickly)

I suspect this is an issue with your phones, specifically, and I'm not really sure what can be done at the software level to resolve this. If any of you are proficient with javascript and want to play around with it, the IP.Chat JS file is ip.chat.js. I will continue to have staff who use Android test the skin, but I'm not seeing anything special in IP.Chat that would cause this.
