Can't disable database category rss feeds?

Maybe I just don't know how to do this?

1) Create a database
2) Create lots of categories
3) Go to the database settings and disable RSS by setting it to 0
4) Click on the rss icon in the bottom left corner of the skin and RSS feeds for all your categories are displaying.
5) The RSS settings for each category don't seem to have any effect either
6) This happens when you click on the feed.
The requested RSS feed could not be retrieved

So maybe its just an issue with checking which feeds are available?

Scratch number 6. I can access the feed with an account that has access to the DB.

So the question is, how exactly am I supposed to disable these feeds?
And now one of my categories has magically disappeared...yet the settings for that category are exactly the same as the other categories.
Re-cache the rss_output_cache? just wondering if the issue is there.

That put the missing category back lol

So I suppose I can go in and exclude each category from the RSS and then recache?
Nope that did not work at all.
Ohey the same thing is happening for articles. I didn't even know that I had set it to exclude my article categories from the RSS, but that's what the setting says yet they still show up.
...... hit the database config.. disable it there... same for articles configuration to disable it for now.... i don't know how that stopgap could fail.... not ideal, but until fix is provided.
Isn't that what I did in step 3? I set the setting to 0 which should disable it.
ugg... soz.... what... in the deuce was changed? i wasn't getting this with .0, i have the same issue myself now that I've looked again.
Alright so it is a bug. This is a really frustrating one since I need to create 46 categories. T_T
I disabled my articles database by entering 0 for number of items to include, and it no longer shows in the RSS feeds dropdown. I did the same for 3 categories and those 3 category RSS feed links disappeared from the menu. I then rebuilt the "rss_output_cache" and those 4 links are still not present in the menu.

I can't reproduce this in any fashion. I even tested a regular database + categories without issue.
Thanks for checking bfarber. I put everything to 0 and it seems to work, but then what exactly is the "Exclude category from RSS" supposed to do, if not disable the RSS for that category?
Additionally in the "Number of records in RSS feed" setting for database categories can the description of the field be modified to include the whole "put 0 to disable" bit?

that.... why have an option the system does not honor?
I'm used to not worrying about the number when I'm disabling it which is why this tripped me up... if I mark to exclude I kind of expect it to. :P
also... on articles... i have 0 items to include in feed... on all categories, the articles configuration, and am excluding, and have popped all my caches... that menu item isn't going anywhere T.T
weird... now i cant reproduce it on a live(popped over there to setup a replication).... fail... nvm :P

Obviously we were both..out of it. :)
"Exclude category from RSS" excludes records from that category from the DATABASE RSS feed.

 then say so? global is vague.
Being vague is not a bug. ;) Feel free to use the appropriate feedback forum.
It's one of those things that makes sense once it's explained to you. x.x

Thank you. Sorry about that..
