Users with permission to see unpublished articles are still redirected.

This simply does not make sense.... not sure is not WAI, but if is... regardless, should be given thought.
upon submission of add/edit of an article published in the future, when the user has the ability to see said article, they are still redirected back to the category index with the message regarding future publishing.
the message is fine... the redirect when one has access makes multiple edits a right pain.
