Gifs don't work

Not sure if it's part of the IPS configuration here but uploading an animated gif to the gallery doesn't work. The image doesn't animate anywhere. Honestly, it should animate everywhere. It's an image gallery.

You cannot resize an image and retain animation, so frankly, it's impossible (while creating thumbnails) to do that.

I can take a look at the image on the full display page.
Oh...I thought it was possible because avatars still animate in boardindextemplate and forumindextemplate if you enable the setting...but that might just be some image resizing I guess.

Thanks.
When that happens, the image isn't thumbnailed and we show the full image with HTML dimensions. I'm not confident that approach is best for Gallery, however that's for the feedback forum rather than the tracker (we intentionally create thumbnails in Gallery, so it's not a bug really).
Probably won't put it in feedback since I agree with you.

But the image itself I think it becomes unanimated at the upload step.

Agreed, but the images can always be scaled down, vice resized.
FYI I did this on my test gallery and the gif uploaded just fine.
Scaling down many large images on one page is terrible performance wise, especially (or specifically) on Webkit browsers (in my experience).

I've noticed that the gallery seems to scale down the entire album of 20 megapixel images I uploaded down to small thumbnails in that manner.

I made it so that if the image does NOT need to be resized, the original copy is retained (for all sizes, thumbnail through "maximum" size). If you have a watermark, it will force the medium-sized image to rebuild the image to add the watermark - nothing can be done there.

Thus, when I just uploaded a 100x100 animated gif, it remains animated throughout the software (since I do not have a watermark and 100x100 is the size of my thumbnails, thus requiring no resizing).
Nice nice nice.
