Purchase has expired but only renew option shown

I have purchased an item using the marketplace which had a 6month (or whatever) renewal.
The renewal period has lapsed and I would like to purchase the item again but only 'renew' is available.
When clicked, it says it's expired.
In other words, the buy option should be shown instead.
